"The States" shall mean such of the colonies of New South Wales, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and South Australia, including the northern territory of South Australia, as for the time being are parts of the Commonwealth, and such colonies or territories as may be admitted into or established by the Commonwealth as States; and each of such parts of the Commonwealth shall be called "a State".

That's the preamble to the British "Commonwealth Of Australia Constitution Act", not the Australian Constitution itself - although they are essentially the same. That Act was necessary because before 1900 ultimate power over the colonies rested with the British Parliament. NZ is not in the Australian Constitution except in that preamble - which is not legally binding.

Well, you came really close. It doesn't explicitly say in the Constitution that the preamble isn't legally binding. I'd have to look up the case law, but I'm quite sure it's not law.

The question is whether that law would apply in NZ... to which the answer is likely to be no.

Was just up late.

Anyhow, just got done with Thanksgiving break that had its high's and lows. Two weeks now and then I have finals week, and then I get a winter break for a full month :bow:
