Tbh, I was reaallly surprised to see them both play. Such a bad move.

Calma. What was he to do? He played those 2 out of pure necessity against Cagliari due to our options being very slim up front. Did you really expect him to play 2 teenagers over 2 seasons professionals when he had the opportunity? Just isn't going to happen.

Given that our only striker (Totti) wasn't even called up, Doumbia had to play. Rudi's hand was forced with one as I'm sure he would've preferred to keep him out of the XI until he had a better understanding of our style of play, but he didn't have that luxury. With Iturbe out and Florenzi forced to play RB with Maicon out, Rudi's hand was again forced at LW so in came Gervinho. None of these decisions were tactical ones. You make those when you have that luxury. Rudi didn't.

He's playing the cards he's dealt and he's doing ok. Draws are better than losses so it's harsh to call this side shitty. It's not like we're in crisis mode at the moment, losing left and right. Just having trouble taking our chances and even more trouble keeping our squad fully fit for sustained amounts of time. Given that Napoli slipped up, this point gives us a bit more room in 2nd though Juve will probably win today so the gap in 1st will likely widen.

You're talking as if we're in 12th and not 2nd.

2nd place would be a failure. If clearly everyone said the objective is scudetto, then I cant see not reaching objectives as anything else than failure.

Teenagers showed enthusiasm and will to make things happen. Gervinho and Doumbia were cleary tired from a long tournament. Verde was clearly better than anybody else - why not start him?

5 draws in 6 games is bit of a crisis. Awards are not given for participation.

Great defending and using simple but effective strategy by Donadoni. Its probably one of the oldest tricks in the books that caught Rudi completely of guard just needed a bit fire power to beat Roma. The usage of a central defender as a full back and shift of formation to maintain a
5 defenders:
at the back( with the left mid Rodriguez dropping deep). 3 midfielder to dispatch any connection between opponent mid and attackers. Rudi garcia on other hand had 3 defensive player and no play maker to get the team going forward. I simply expect more than hoofing the ball from midfield to striker and i believe its not expecting too much from a serie A side. This is how Thinkerman solved the puzzle before
Thinkerman:
I blame this game on Rudi 100%, we drew but he lost the tactical battle
I hate to say it but with this trend i Do NOT Want To Be IN Champions League .

Agree with the tactical analysis as it was clear we needed a creator. I knew that as soon as I saw that lineup. Rudi didn't even try to drop Ljajic into the hole to play behind the wingers. I don't think he's a playmaker, but he's the only one in that attack and midfield with enough vision to pick out players. Instead we got 70 minutes of him trying to shoot at every chance and missing the target. If Rudi had tried Ljajic in the hole, I could see starting Verde again as making sense.

What I don't think we can blame him for is player fitness, suspensions and AFCON participations.

yeah that's true, I can't blame him for player fitness, suspensions and AFCON participations and Transfers. Even in Game tactics i cant really blame him for not relying on 18 and 20 years old inexperienced players. He is doing best with he has in his team but i expect him to take more risks.

The rising fan furor against Rudi reminds me a bit of the Allegri situation with Milan honestly.

I'm happy we didn't naively go for the game and get punished like we usually do. we didn't over commit but we were clueless in attack and  8 men behind the ball from juve didn't help the cause either.I actually hoped that juve score before the red card so i can get to watch a football game. Laughing seidu scored good for him but that is bad news for paredes. Finally I'm glad the game is over and don't know how can someone support the team like juve who plays defensively every time i watch their game but to each its own, i want football they probably want to collect other people's trophies

Meh, I don't think we should kid ourselves here....that loss was long overdue and frankly while I hate to see this side lose, maybe this offers the reboot that we've been waiting so long for. The draws had to stop. Losing like that to a good side like Samp will hopefully force these lads and Rudi to take a good hard look at themselves and really ask and answer serious questions.

6 wins and 10 draws in 2 months.....That was probably the worst unbeaten streak I've ever witnessed as a football fan.

Its not about the result its the same blueprint as Chiesaditotti perfectly wrote the template for. There is one exception though, most often when we try to open up the game and play offensive we end up losing the plot/midfield battle and conceding. I knew this was coming and still pretty upset about it.

the attack is shamefully awful - no real leader, no one who can change games by himself, also awful finishing.

Garcias only plan is - "pass to Gervinho, maybe he will do something.."

Doumbia looks like a 45 year old..

Don't care what Doumbia looks like. He can look 65 honestly, as long as he's doing his job, which is to convert our chances. He won't judge him too much considering that he's been out of the starting the XI for quite some time, but based on the little bit I have seen of him...he looks very much off the pace.

All we were missing was a finisher....an in-form, natural-born finisher. With 24 shots attempted....this could've been something else really than what it turned out to be.

So yeah Sabatini will likely have to fall on his sword in the summer based on this, especially if Garcia goes too. Still tough to rate Doumbia when he simply doesn't play much. Ibarbo looked good, but clearly isn't a striker as well.

Despite all of this, I think we're in ok shape. Lazio have Juve next weekend and should they lose and we beat Atalanta, we'll regain 2nd again, going 2 points above Lazio.

I wonder where we would be with Salah. Doumbia looks weak, gets tackled off the ball all the time, falls easily, looks slow.
