The Hero Indian Super League
I didnt see a thread here. So just starting one. Not so sure though whether this( General Section) is the place for it. So admins kindly check and make sure.
I have seen a lot of Indians and guys from the subcontinent here in GL. So people who are following this can come here and do some chit- chat.
India, once a notable name in footballing world has declined alarmingly all thanks to that crazy shite game called cricket which for the past 30-40 years have dominated every other sport in the country. Now that same India is once again forced to take her baby steps; into a brave new direction hopefully.
At least now theres an attempt to revive it, to redeem Indian football and hence the concept of Indian Super League got formulated.
8 city based franchises, former notable International names from world over, young Indian talents, corporates, Bollywood, cricketers and the end product is this, a 2 month long tournament which is garnering quite a response within the country, its youth especially.
You will find tonnes of negative stuff in here, especially to outsiders it might even look like a goddamn circus
But at the end of the day if this can improve the quality of football in the country, can spot some decent players, cos India is a vast country and there must be talent in here, only that is going to count. We can conveniently neglect every thing else.

yea but Elano is the marquee player on paper I think.
Also there are other big names as well. Like Nicholas Anelka in Mumbai City's ranks who however lost today in the first match to Atletico by 3 goals to nil Both Anelka and Ljumberg though didnt play.

Andre Santos the best player in this league easy.
Beats getting beat up by Flamengo fans after a bad performance.
Inter is strong within this league as well,4 ex players.

Re: The Hero Indian Super League
I don't get India at all. Every time I have been, which is only 2 times to be fair, I have seen countless kids outside kicking balls around. The sport is not completely MIA like it is in large parts of the US, or even Canada. You'd think they would have enough to make a mark out of Asia, but it does not seem to work like that.
That being said....Lets go Goa!

Isn't this also the second attempt?
The first one was similar, with Crespo,Canavaro,Okocha and a couple others but never got underway, don't know why.

the strangest thing is that i've never seen a british player of indian descent, even tough indians are a largy minority in the country
contrast that with the number of african players in france , or how every single dutch team this season has at least one player of moroccan descent
vikash dhorasoo remains the GOAT player of indian descent

yes it is.
Premier League Soccer, the first attempt eventually got canceled owing to lack of funds and venues mainly. That was very embarrassing. Hernan Crespo was the most expensive player in that.

Re: The Hero Indian Super League
Neil Taylor of Swansea.
Anyways, Ill be supporting my hometown Delhi Dynamos FC, Dont think we will win it, But we'll finish in the top 4.
Ill be going to Goa to watch the Goa vs Delhi match, The home games ill catch once Uni ends in December if we qualify for the semis.
Those who think this is kind of a sell out dont know the actual condition of Indian football. Anyways im glad this is shit is happening.
The Kolkata Mumbai game was pretty good in terms of everything, Yeah it was rash and very unappealing in terms of attacking but this was probably teams settling. They arent used to playing infront 20k+ crowds and so much money.

Pretty annoyed that the best Indian player Sunil Chettri and talent Robin Singh arent in this league as Bangalore's team got scrapped. Its a shame.

Unfortunately theres a Kerala only in the name. Everything else from the team motto, to crest, to colors is alien to the tradition and history of the place. Very Non mallu.
The funniest thing is the crest. Instead of putting an Indian elephant on it, those ignorant fools have come up with an African elephant.
Nevertheless yea I still will be supporting the team. But since it doesnt evoke that much connection and emotion, I will also be rooting for North East United. Let's see how it pans out.
and LOL ironically today's match is KBFC vs NEU.
