Why the change in sleeping cycles?

Somehow going to bed at 4-5am and waking up at 10-11 seemed.....scummy. Basically, I stayed up all night one night shortly before Christmas as I couldn't sleep, which screwed up my entire sleeping schedule, and eventually I normalised it to this, which is working quite well for me. I'm getting more sleep, while at the same time the days feel much longer, as well as the added bonus of not getting up every morning feeling like I'd been hit by a bus.
