Arsenal v Galatasaray Preview
Arsenal v Galatasaray, Wednesday 1st October 7.45pm, Champions League, Emirates Stadium, Sky Sports 1
Arsène Wenger celebrates 18 years in charge of Arsenal on Wednesday
As Arsenal kick off at the Emirates against Turkish opposition for the second time in five weeks on Wednesday evening, much of the attention will be on a certain Arsène Wenger. It's precisely 18 years ago that the Frenchman joined the Gunners. 1,021 games and 8 major honours later, Wenger's position remains unquestionable, at least in the eyes of the board.
From various trophies with the two double winning sides and the Invincibles, overseeing the move to the Emirates Stadium and nurturing talents such as Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira to a 9-year trophy drought, failure to address glaring weaknesses and the sale of key players such as Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Cesc Fàbregas, the Wenger era has seen just about everything. The longest-serving and most successful coach in the club's history will always earn respect for his achievements, consistency and style of play, though, even after May's FA Cup victory, many Gooners remain frustrated with the 64-year old's stubbornness. This season alone has seen a number of interesting decisions, including playing Mesut Özi on the left-wing, leaving Alexis Sánchez on the bench for Saturday's north London derby and opting not to add a defensive midfielder or defensive cover in the summer.
"I'll reflect back after the game," Wenger told reporters on Tuesday of his 18 years at the helm. Having already seen off Besiktas in the Champions League play-off as well as Fenerbahce at the same stage last season, Arsenal now welcome Galatasaray to the Emirates. "They have top-class players," Wenger insists. Following the opening group game defeat in Dortmund, the Gunners can't afford another slip up this week.
Match Facts
* Arsenal's 2-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund on matchday one was their first defeat in 15 matches in all competitions.
* Alexis Sánchez has scored four goals in his last six outings for Arsenal.
* Arsenal have never lost over 90 minutes against Turkish sides.
* Before Schalke 04 won 2-0 at the Arsenal Stadium on matchday three in 2012/13 the London side had gone 45 home games unbeaten when facing non-English opponents.
* Galatasaray have not won in nine visits to English clubs, drawing three and losing six.
* Galatasaray, last season's Süper Lig runners-up, are in their 13th group stage campaign and their third in succession, having missed out in the five seasons before that.

So, 4-1-4-1 it is then.Wenger: "I feel the potential is there for us, we don’t lose a lot, we want to find the winning edge"
Trying to find a the winning edge by going the wrong way.

Re: Arsenal v Galatasaray Preview
Updated the preview.
Expecting a tough game, Turkish sides as we know (apart from the 5-1 win at Fenerbahce a few years back) are always tricky to face.

Re: Arsenal v Galatasaray Preview
We all know Galatasaray will make it as difficult as possible by making the game physical. Lots of fouls and breaking up by force. Referee won't stop it all obviously so it will be hard for us to play. Not to mention Prandelli is a quality coach.
But we are at home and we really need to win tomorrow.
Midfield options look a bit bleak but we have enough to survive. I won't start Wilshere unless it's really necessary. Sam's midfield suggestion is pretty good
Flamini/Coquelin-Oxlade-Ozil is more than good enough.

Re: Arsenal v Galatasaray Preview
Greta job Sam.
Anything other than a win would be a huge failure.
My line up, would Jack a day off we all know he would play and Wenger wont stop him. We cannot risk anymore injuries to key players before the Chelsea game!
Szczesny
Bellerin, Koscielny, Mert, Gibbs
Coquelin Wilshere
Alexis, Cazorla, Ozil
Welbeck

Re: Arsenal v Galatasaray Preview
If I had a choice I would not take corners for us, we cant take advantage of our corners and the worst is opposition takes advantage of our corners by counter attacking, we cant defend corners either.
What do we do in training?

Swap Ozil and Cazorla and swap Coq with Flamini and that's my ideal set-up, tooRaptorgunner wrote:

Re: Arsenal v Galatasaray Preview
I think Santi and Ozil will rotate the positions, I am sure Flamini will start at Chelsea and no reason to start him at this game.Lex wrote:Swap Ozil and Cazorla and swap Coq with Flamini and that's my ideal set-up, tooRaptorgunner wrote:

Coquelin needs game time and he could be better option than Flamini later on the season than Flamini.

Scoring first and early? What is this?
Very well played Arsenal, you see what an early goal can do if you are a good passing team.

Re: Arsenal v Galatasaray Preview
Gala are far too narrow to cope with our pacey players running the flanks. Did Wenger actually do his home work? Probably just a coincidence
