^ great comment regarding this on a Newcastle forum Mole and I first met 7 years ago !

Europa league is mint, knockout games are always mad. Plus gotta love the mix of random teams. Got yer old fallen giants, yer Eastern European moneybags and the odd outlier like Guingamp.
Far better than the same 11 out of 16 teams scared to lose in the cash cup.

Disrepectful nonsense. We've improved out of all recognition in the past few months. It's not beyond us to still go through. We were unlucky to draw tonight.

You tied in last minute though and we won 0-2 .. But anyway respect for Celtic, great match and intensity showed during 90 minutes.
iI agree about Celtic is better than months ago, you are a different team now , 7 matches won in a row in league,  and you hadn't Commons ( your important player? )  today

A neutral will have admired this match  Typical EL match , I agree with that comment posted by Sepi . GOAT cup.

If we analyze it omitting the pure entertainment, the result was caused also from both the defence anyway  , both scrubs today.
Our defensive partnership had problem even when you hoofed the ball , I was embarassed to watch it .
Similar problems also for Celtic.
Most players in pitch weren't worthy of old Inter and Celtic 60's , but we already knew it

Contrarily the fans were worthy of this historical match

Congrats for atmosphere and I hope to watch it also at San Siro .
The football hopes also the players in pitch will be worthy of another Inter - Celtic

Well, I hope that Gladbach will still make it through. After all, they didn't lose due to being outplayed yesterday, but due to failure to convert their chances, of which they had more than Sevilla. If they manage to shut out Sevilla in the Borussia Park, I'm pretty confident. The only problem is that they will have to score three goals if Sevilla manages to score one.

If Napoli win but also finish top 3 in Serie zZzzZ do Serie zZzzZ get an extra CL spot or does basically nothing happen in terms of "EL winner gets CL spot"?

Hopefully, though Napoli may view it as a way to avoid elimination from the CL qualifying round. Laughing

Ah, so the winner goes straight to the group stages. Didn't know that either. Laughing

Will be a GOAT Liga team anyway. 5 GOAT Liga teams participating in the CL next season. Proud

Actually I just looked it up and they only go straight through to the groups if the Champions League winners don't requalify through their domestic league in which case the automatic berth in the group stage is reserved for them.

Great game that. Celtic v Inter. Proper cup tie.

Now passed my angry .... in cold blood ... I agree ... That is the Europa League magic

DAT 3-3 :bolw:

Celtic to get the tie on LAST ball dragged from an Unreal public  ( why Celtic must have a similar squad ffs )  and Guidetti  amazing goal the most greatest moment of collective exaltation since Archie Gemmill against Netherlands in 1978

Just this anti capitalist cup can give similar moments of social justice, more EL matches less CL matches pls

Post by Robespierre Fri Feb 20, 2015 9:21 pm

Trabzonspor is crap but there were not doubts for me about Napoli being the Italian team with more chances to gon on .

Many " overrate " this " Roma because many remind last year, but it is a different team with many difficulties and players as Pjanic aren't play well this year , besides Garcia was crap in Europa also under Lille ( I remind he didn't get 2nd place in our group because of CSKA .. maybe that is the moment where he fell in love for Doumbia, awful also yesterday) , and the manager counts in Europe . Mancini shows always his difference in league-Europe too . Also yesterday ( nonosense subs )

Inter is Inter , we are NOT still a mature team .
I see a good potential to grown next years for players as Shaqiri but anyway this year we remain incredilby bottlers.
Frail mentality , capable to play well with Juve but losing against Torino , how can a similar club winning in Europe ? Immature, frail , bottlers, the talent of some players can't be enough . Infactt we got a 3-3 result . 3-3 is insane result. It is symptom of a not reliable club . So we are capable to lose at San Siro now.

Napoli has a manager used to go on in Europe ( and manager in Europe ounts even more than league imo ) and players as Higuain and Callejon used to play similar matches

Anyway I can't see still an Italian team to win again Europa League .

Napoli will stop to quarter final imho. the fact to have the defence and midfielder extremely average don't help too.

Fiorentina can knock out Tottenham , but I think they won't go far, as last year exactly

Perhaps Wolfsburg is rated as the favorite... but this is the most beautiful thing of Europa League. The favorites rarely win . It is a cup changed during the time.
In Old Uefa Cup there was less unpredictability basically, on the other hand in 90's years it was often won by Italian teams in his prime in that period, not Russians or Portoguese, personally we won it 3 times and noone could be really surprised about our victories in 91 and 98 when you had best player in the world at that moment ( Matthaus, Ronaldo) , while in 94 we were close to relegate in league so yes...

In this modern Europa League it is different, Wolfsburg hopes to be new Werder Bremen 2009 , I remind when all rated it as greatest favorite to win with Diego Ribas Juve legend but they bottled it against Shaktar in final

That game against inter was one of the best I've seen. Just unfortunate we gifted them 3 goals. Our first and third goals were excellent.

I agree robe with the "the favourite rarely win part". I think that's why EL is more entertaining than CL and has been made even more entertaining by the fact that the winner goes straight to the group stages of CL (unless the CL winner fails to qualify directly like dost so rightly pointed out)

I definitely have a feeling one of the Spanish teams will win. The race for CL is pretty rife atm with Valencia, Atleti, Sevilla and Villarreal all fighting for two spots. Bilbao aren't even in the EL race which makes winning this cup even more important for them

Although Serie A are in the same position where 4/5 teams are fighting for 1/2 spots I dont think they have enough quality to eventually go on and win it. Napoli might reach the Semis but ultimately I think they will sacrifice it in favour of protecting their 3rd/2nd place position in the league

Wolfsburg, Everton and Spurs are 3 other teams that can win it too but ultimately it boils down to who wants it the most

I forgot Liverpool :brickwall:

Definitely Everton do have a chance of winning it. They have the quality, Martinez just needs to realise that you don't win games unless you are prepared to change tactics every once in a while. I think both Liverpool and Everton have the same problem, both are pretty bad when trying to defend first attack later but look better when those two are reversed

Everton on form are better than most of the teams in this competition but as I said it depends on how much they want it

All Italians newspapers/ media  have as first news  the devastation made by Feyenord ultras at Rome . Some creepy scenes.
I 've definitely  reassessed  the Visigoths under Alaric.
If ISIS realizes it is enough an Europa League team to destroy Roma, it is the end.
But luckily they don't care about football.
Genuinely curious about Uefa behaviour now, if they think the problem is just the racism of Lazio ultras.
