Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
What would you guys think of signings 1 year contract with a older legend that's past it just to cover until January or next summer when there are better options in the market? As it looks right now available ST's are very shit to the level we want relatively speaking.
Just some examples would be David Villa, Del Piero, Henry, Eto'o, etc? Not exactly these guys but someone like that who is past it but still has quality to help out until January or so.

We really need to get a CF who can ok out wide. Ill be comfortable in sacrificing a FB (Moreno?) if we dont have resources (which we have, Im just saying how important it is for us to get a CF) for a decent CF.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Looking at the current options available, I'd take Bony in a heart beat.
I'm dead serious. I dread going into the season with Lambert and Borini as back up. Bony is a very good player in his own right even if maybe he's not the ideal choice.

Why? If we need one, that's Sturridge. We've got enough wide attacking players already. If we want to play our new forward with Sturridge, either have both up top or Sturridge out wide.

If we are going to buy a "PL proven player", I think Bony and Benteke are the only options.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Because BR wanted Remy, That confirmed we wanted a striker who has the legs to play out wide as well. This move seems to show that BR wants to play Danny centrally for most parts of the season ( which was and is still expected prior to Remy rumors) so the new forward we want to bring in would be Remy-ish.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Back to Reus, then.
But personally I would just buy whoever is the best player and can score goals and is available rather than think can we play him out wide. Sturridge can play out wide, so I don't think it would hinder us at all if we bought a striker who just plays through the middle.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Neither Bony nor Benteke would accept sitting on the bench regularly when we opted for a 4-3-3 formation though, and neither really has the pace or technical ability to contribute in any role other than as a CF.
Lambert, while he's not quick and has quickly become the "in" player to scapegoat, is better than both of those two with the ball at his feet, willing to be a squad player, and even a bit more versatile than those two mentioned. Hell, if what everyone is concerned about is having a "Prem proven goalscorer" to back up Sturridge there are really very few options better than Lambert... and given his addition statistics for assists on top of goals, he is in that regard superior to Bony and Benteke. Obviously, statistics don't tell the whole story but then I don't think the visual cues and other areas really favour those two strikers over Lambert either. This is pretty clearly a case of the grass being greener, to be honest. Neither of the players offers any significantly and indisputably superior areas to Lambert other than age (which matters little when we have so many young attackers already here and are looking for a mid-to-short term back-up), neither fits our intended play or system better than Lambert, and neither would be as likely to accept the same type of role in the squad that he is.
As far as I can tell neither Bony nor Benteke provide what can be consider legitimately good options for us, plain and simple.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
I'm not saying we should sign Bony or Benteke, but given the scarcity of options available, it wouldn't surprise me if we did. (I also think they would accept a 2nd choice striker role, it would still be a step up from playing for Swansea or Villa, not to mention more money).
Anyway, I hope we sign an attacker who is predominantly a CF, because that's where we are light. We've got plenty of players who can play out wide, but if Sturridge is unavailable we are going to need someone who is at their best playing through the middle.
Lambert is a fine option to have, but past his peak and probably not quite good enough to be our 2nd choice striker.

The fee for Coady is understood to be £500,000 plus add ons.
I had high hopes for him but seems like he has to go. Good luck to him.
