To be very honest I am apprehensive of Greece coming up with their Euro 2004 heroics to reach the semi finals. That may give Argentina a passage as easy looking on paper as Germany had in WC 2002 but in spite of supporting Argentina I do not want that because a world cup without at least some big clashes I won't be able to look back on fondly. Wish the semi final is Argentina vs. Netherlands as many would predict now.

I can agree with that but firstly I must point out that too many people thought Mexico is utterly hopeless when the tournament began and they have done much better than that. I predicted them to reach the last 16 mainly because looking at their track record they have a habit of reaching the last 16 every single time in recent history. They also have a habit of exiting at that stage and for this reason among others I don't give them much of a chance against Netherlands. The latter's main danger will come if Greece make it to the quarters.

Another team that was criminally vilified before the tournament began is USA. Klinsmann was ruthlessly criticized on the Donovan and other issues. The team and the coach sure deserve kudos now in my eyes at least.

As an Argentina fan let me say this loud and clear. The number of upsets may have been high in this world cup but in spite of that if we don't reach the semi finals this time it will be a case of shame beyond words. Also I will go so far as to say we will lose the confidence to do much in the next few world cups and all Messi's brilliant goals of the group stages will be in the trash can. To be considered a star at a world cup the minimum a player MUST do is take his team to the semi finals. From Messi people want to see two steps more than that but this is the bare minimum and after the kind of path we have got not doing it is pretty much intolerable.

Now some may say but there are other big teams who have failed even more and should be even more ashamed. However most of those teams have achieved something great in the recent past unlike us. Considering the quality of the players and teams we have had over the last several years it wouldn't be wrong to call Argentina the greatest international underachievers of the last twenty or so years and we will never get a better time to change that than NOW.

This. I agree here. Belgium will struggle against US and will get K.O ed then and there itself.
Belgium is underperforming massively. I cant see that team defeating America which is playing with so much confidence and cohesion right now. a 1-0 win I am putting my money on.

As far as our chances against Mexico is concerned. its going to be tough. we might win, but the wins gonna be narrow and a hard fought one.
