Good developer of talent too. Here are some of the current players formed at Clermont Foot:
- Benatia
- Alessandrini
- Brahimi
- Sylvain Armand
- Yatabare
Good club tbh.

She'd have to actually be there to last. Hard to last if you don't even show up

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
You're right sports, she absolutely should have stuck it out in a job she had literally no real control of, where he success or failure was determined almost entirely by other people and factors. That way, if and when she's made the scape-goat it will definitely help all potential women managers break into the sport and her career. And if/when things went well and those actually controlling the transfers and everything else took credit for it, it would totally help all potential women managers break into the sport (as figureheads) and her career.
Double standards.

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
stuck out what? SHE NEVER SHOWED UP The owner/president of the club gave her 100% support. She didn't even try to come and see what she was facing in terms of a project. All she did was exchange some email IN ENGLISH no less.
If she came to the club and, after a few months or a year, then left... fair enough. But wtf did she expect? That she could get things done over the internet? That everyone was going to accept her 1005 without knowing her?
I wonder if any of you have ever had an executive role at a company where politics are involved. You need to convince people that you're good first AND THEN you see who doesn't fall in line... you ask to cut those people out if you don't have the power. But you can't know anything over the internet. You need to go in and get your hands dirty.
Sheesh.

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
I'm a specialist in my field and work closely with execs and seniors. Politics applies to all levels of business, not just execs.
In fact I have found that often those who come across as over-zealous don't last.
If you understand anything about office politics you will know that in order to be successful in management you need a support network, people backing you.
If she felt she not only didn't have people backing her, but had people who may conspire against her it may be a risk not worth taking.
To presume she can go in there and win everybody over with charisma and zeal would be very romantic and admirable.. but it would also be naïve and unrealistic.
Again we don't know all the circumstances, she claims to have felt uncomfortable, like there were too stronger forces resisting her appointment. I don't deny she could have taken the cowards way out, but it sounds to me like an assumption.

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
How can you assess anything in terms of the political landscape if you don't show up for your first day of work??? That's my point. You come in, you assess, you do what you have to do to get your objective done... and if it doesn't work out, you move on. But it all starts with showing up on your first day at work
Not sure what you're going on about... but there's no way she or anyone can assess anything about the political environment of an organization from a distance and without actually starting to work.
I've gone into situations where the political environment was very hostile since we were involved in a couple of hostile takeovers with my firm. You assess first... then find those that will follow, those that could follow... and you get rid of the rest. Granted, this was in the US where firing people is really not difficult. There's nothing over-zealous about it... there's a process and you apply the process. Absolutely nothing personal or emotional about it. You have an objective and you find the best way to achieve your objective.
But again, if you don't show up on the first day of work, you can't know anything

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
there are simply some people, who dont want to take part in politics at club level. They wanna focus on their job, their work and thats all. Their importance is to the technical difficulties they might face during their job, but they wont like to face the cringy politics, winning over people, convincing them, or throwing out people by playing politics. So if she felt like, at this club, there is more importance to other factors more than football, probably that was the right decision. I think she may have expected some basic courtesies from people and she was probably disappointed that she took such a strange decision to quit the job without even coming there, within 24 hours...so Sports you should look at this with a very balanced view imo and at least giving that benefit of doubt to her.

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
That's the due diligence she should have done on the club BEFORE accepting the job.
I'm furious that she did this on the day before the start of training and while only being at Clermont 24 hours. The decision itself is less of an issue for me... although i think she was being extremely naive. The manner in which she handled the whole thing is a big problem in my eyes.
Clermont is starting the season with no manager and basically behind the 8 ball as a result.

your whole view is based on
and as previously suggested, it makes more sense to discuss it further when she speaks out
but you cant deny that there can be more possibilities to itBut again, if you don't show up on the first day of work

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
She spoke out on Le Parisien. She felt disprespected that the transfers weren't discussed with her... she was informed once the medicals were over. The thing is, almost every club does transfers without manager consent. Heck, it's just how clubs are run in France from PSG all the way down.
And based on the Le Parisien article, she only had contact with one person... the person informing her of the transfers... and she got offended with the way this person handled her.
Very, very soft imo.

Clermont will not be denied... named another woman, Corinne Diacre, as the new manager for the club. I know about her actually as she was the bench coach for the France NT women's team from 2007-2013. Not sure how that translates to the men's game... but we'll see.
Kudos to the Clermont president for not allowing one individual to completely undermine his desire to bring women to the men's coaching ranks.

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Diacre-un-peu-d-apprehension/478663
Corinne Diacre interview today.
Reporter: It's your first day at Clermont. How do you feel?
Corinne: There's a bit of apprehension but it will lessen as the day goes on (laughs)! I am very happy to be here. I want to go a ways with Clermont. It's not going to be easy but I'm particularly glad that i have a staff that's ready to work with me.
Reporter: How did the players greet you?
Corrinne: I found that the players were mostly smiling and were happy to meet me. They all looked me in the eye which was great. I said a few words before training in the locker room, i introduced myself and i expressed some of the values that are important to me.
Reporter: You kept your distance during training...
Corinne: For the initial stage, i'm going to spend my time observing. At least until the end of the week. The staff will manage the schedule that has started; it was planned this way. The two friendlies that we will play over the weekend will allow me to see things more clearly.
Reporter: Weren't you driven off by the words spoken last week by the Portuguese Helena Costa, who justified her departure by saying that she was suprised by the "amateurim" of the club?
Corinne: I followed from afar the situation. I have no judgement to bring on her declarations. I'm the manager of Clermont and i'm going to concentrate on doing my job.
Reporter: So you're finally going to be the first woman to manage a men's professional football team in France. Do you feel any particular pressure?
Corinne: I always put pressure on myself. I'm a competitor and I have been a pioneer in several things already (she was the first woman to get her managing accreditation in professional football following the entire required path; no shortcuts. She got it this past May). I salute the president's initiative (to choose a woman). I think the novelty will wear off once the league starts. The goal is to achieve results on the pitch.

first thing, change in the thread title
second thing, glad that someone took this opportunity and came forward, had the courage to take it so lets see how it unfolds
third thing, Helena could have handled it better but still no one knows it, what happened behind the scenes. Probably this job was not for typical women.

Re: Corinne Diacre appointed coach of Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot
I'm inclined to agree with sports on this one. While all the information isn't out yet, I feel like she didn't make enough of an effort and was naive to think there wouldn't be resistance. I think the Jackie Robinson example. People on this forum should know that I try to be open-minded and I treat genders equally, but I think some posters are being too defensive. I know when some posts were made all the information wasn't out, but I do feel like sports was making some fair points.
Anyway, it all comes down to opinion, but I think her decision to leave so quickly could have been a step in the wrong direction for women coaches, however I'm glad the club gave another women a chance.

It seems to me, having now heard her explanation, that Costa's expectations didn't match what actually occurred. That's on her unfortunately as you need to come into environments like this with a pretty open mind and clear plan on how you want to approach things.
I think she may have been too laid back and perhaps allowed the uniqueness of this situation to cloud her judgement. Conversely, Diacre doesn't appear to be too overawed though, stated a clear strategy of how she's approaching this job, and really thinking with her head on a swivel. That's how Costa needed to have approached this. If she had, I don't think she would've been as unpleasantly surprised as she turned out to be.
