Lionel Messi has taken issue with the Spanish press for debating his next career move while insisting Barcelona will not let the opportunity to retain the Primera Division title slip from their grasp.

Media speculation in Spain has linked the Argentina striker with a move away from Nou Camp - where he has won six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies - in the summer amid apparent concerns over his happiness.

Yet, conversely, it has also been suggested Messi could soon sign a new bumper contract that would tie him to the Catalan giants until 2019.

The 26-year-old has, however, distanced himself from all the swirling rumours, stressing he is solely focused on helping Barca win their two remaining league games.

Quoted in Marca, Messi said: "They have said a lot of things during the year.

"Many atrocities have come out, most of them lies. I'm fine."

Newcastle United are ready to head to the Bundesliga for striking reinforcements once again.

Sky Sports understands that Alan Pardew's side have yet to decide on whether to take up their option on Borussia Monchangladbach striker Luuk de Jong - who has failed to score since joining on loan in January.

However, the St James' Park side are ready to step up their interest in Germany Under-21 striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

The Hertha Berlin striker has spent the last 12 months on loan at Hamburg, where he has impressed with 12 goals in 19 games, which earned him a call-up to the full Germany squad.

The 22-year-old has just nine months left on his current deal and has thus far shunned Hertha's attempts to try and extend his contract at the Olympic Stadion.

With Hertha now considering a sale, a number of Premier League clubs are reported to be showing an interest in the 6ft 2in front-man and Sky Sports understands Newcastle are one of those keen on landing him.

And now his mother Kerstin Lasogga, who also acts as his advisor, has revealed that moving to the Premier League could be an option.

She told Berliner Morgenpost newspaper: "Pierre is under contract with Hertha Berlin.

"But those people who know Pierre in person are aware that playing in the English Premiership has always been one of his desires."

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez hopes to return to Ajax later in his career and has lauded the impact his time at the club had on his development.

The Uruguay international spent three-and-a-half seasons in Amsterdam, lifting the Eredivisie title and scoring an astonishing 81 goals in 110 league matches.

And the 27-year-old, who has enjoyed a double award-winning campaign on Merseyside this season, says he is still "crazy" about the Dutch giants and keen to play for the Godenzonen again in the future.

"I've always said on one day I will return at Ajax," Suarez told Helden magazine. “Even if the manager doesn't want me, I'll go. For sure!

"Ajax was a very important step in my life. My wife Sofia and I are crazy about Amsterdam and the lifestyle, the respect from and for everyone.

"We had a happy life and could live there in peace. We walked a lot through Amsterdam."

Suarez was named the Professional Footballers' Association's and Football Writers' Association's Player of the Year after a prolific season for Liverpool and credits his education at Ajax for helping turn him into one of the best players in the world.

"Ajax was the ideal club for me and I learned a lot there," he continued. "I credit Ajax for teaching me to use both feet, but also how to play without the ball and how to be a team player.

"[Former manager] Martin Jol gave me a lot of confidence. I was honoured when he made me captain of the team and I felt responsible."
