Can you put a contract SIM in a SIM free phone?

Ok i stupidly threw my remote control the other day and it hit my phone screen which has since got many cracks Sad

I was wondering could i buy a sim free phone and use my broken phone's sim until my contract runs its course?

I didn't get it from Tesco's.... i got of Phones 4 U like 8 months ago but have lost all the paper work lol.

So just looking at buying a releative cheap phone and using the contract sim i have.

You might be better off taking it to a phone repair store and seeing how much it will cost to replace the screen.

Buy the phone, try the sim and if it doesn't work refund it? I'd say 75% it should work. hmm

If you get a sim free phone and put in a SIM card with service on it then you are fine.

And sim-free do you mean unlocked? I mean pop in any gsm SIM card in a gsm phone and it will work. At least in my experience.

In any case i have found out as long as the provider is the same ( in my case O2) it works so i'm gonna go ahead and do that.
