Zhirkov is an incredibly poor centre midfielder. Never seen him play well there even once.

Typical Chelsea. We finally produce a bright attacking midfielder for once in about 3 or 4 decades. And we drain all the attacking play from him and play him in defensive midfield.

Will never understand the fetish of playing McEachran in defensive midfield. frakking annoying tbh.

way too much back passing and long balls in that match IMO
didnt watch most of the first but in the 2nd drogba looked rusty and lampard seemed invisible, not to mention that new kid almost gifting two goals
on the upside i quite liked yossi in the midfeild, could rpove an idea for the season
anyway we'll put it all down to pre season rustiness and move on

Kalou and Bosingwa were terrible down the right wing, it'll have been nice to see Sturridge play with the second set.

I think Mceachran is more of a CM than an AM, he was so confident on the ball and sought to direct play from deep, he has a calming effect on the game pretty much like Xavi's.

Chalobah looked very impressive despite the awkward header which almost cost a goal, Hilario is undisputed second choice after his penalty heroics today.

Benayoun was quite good as well, Lampard was off the pace and added little to the game.

Mikel, Drogba and Anelka were not too impressive but were considerably better than their rivals for those positions.

Guys how did Sturridge, Mceachran and Torres play?

Match started at 7 AM here, didn't feel like wakening up after sleeping at 1 AM.

Torres was average. Barely got any service and missed a free header from a corner.

Sturridge had a few bright moments but wasn't at his best today. Not surprising since he only started training 2-3 days ago.

McEachran was deployed in a defensive midfield position again and was average although he showed 1 or 2 moments of pure skill. Still don't understand why we're playing him in that position even though it wastes his most impressive qualities.

Best player on the pitch was Benayoun by far. Worst was probably Lampard. Slow and sluggish performance from him unfortunately.

Based on Villas-Boas's interview after the game he is trying to convert Benny into a CM (like he played today and last time)?

Hoping he doesn't play McEachran in a defensive position like Carlo...

Things starting to shape up slowly... Torres already looks in better shape than last season tbh.. I think we can expect some good stuff from him this season. Yossi has stepped up a notch as well.. Kalou should leave IMO, as usual.

Yossi was a massive loss last season imo, glad to have him in this season fingers x no injuries.

Looks like we've already ruined McEachran. Just like with Mikel you can see the attacking instinct slowly diminishing from him.
