The last line of his open letter looks to me to be a clear hint that he was frozen out because he spoke against the disgusting things done by China against the Muslims there.

Also a bit drunk. It's definitely China. Long live our new overlords! Cowardly capitalists will give away all our freedoms in the name of profits.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
No one knows what is going on, but what makes the most sense to me is that it's money related.
Özil is on CL level money, while the club has been playing Europa League for years now and can't (or won't) pay too many players CL level money at the moment. The China-Uyghur tweet made the decision easy. These spineless cucks, in one of the disgusting moves I've ever seen this club make, decided to distance themselves to Özil's tweet (but then later didn't have a problem joining the Black Lives Matter movement, which is great but shows that's it's all about money rather than caring for any of these people).
That is likely the reason why Özil later refused to take the collective paycut the club asked the players to make, at which point he never made the squad anymore.
In short, the club is being cheap/disgusting and wanting to find a way not to pay the agreed contract in 2018 with Özil.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
I understand the club wants Özil to leave. But Özil has refused to leave.
So if it's "money related" in terms of his wages, once the transfer window shuts, there's no point in freezing him out, is there? He can't leave right now, can he? And if he doesn't want to, noone can force him, the wages have to be paid, no? So not registering him only hurts the club, unless you believe he is 0% asset in terms of football which is ridiculous for a team struggling to score against Burnley.
Unless "money related" really means that there were direct threats that not freezing out Özil would mean financial backlash from the Chinese market?
I grew up in the late 20th century, I got taught things were going only better and better, the end of history etc., only waiting for every country to catch up. It's nonsense I know, but still I refuse to believe this would be so directly political.

Yeah but he's also an Erdogan buddy and reactionary idiot, so he might well self-stylize as a martyr for the Muslim cause when it's not actually true and he's just unfit due to Playstation (TM)
So I won't take any Instagram post as though it was the gospel (or Koran)
But yeah, he did speak out against the Uighur treatment and Arsenal DID apologize to the genocidal regime for that. That did happen.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
It absolutely defies belief that people were so against ozil talking out and think that had nothing to do with his freezing out of the team.
Ozil has had a sharp decline; there’s no question, but Arsenal as a team have been absolutely woeful until very recently, and that’s an understatement. It’s not like they’re challenging for the title. The media would have you think they have no room for ozil, when they could’ve really used an in form ozil last year.
Oh well, past is the past, doesnt matter now tbh

Virtue signalling is a cope in the absence of not actually doing anything about the cause that is being signalled.
NBA, no one is allowed to speak of the holocaust in China.
Its just a money process given its PR for the highest lobby.

in a couple of years i wonder if arsenal would have any regret for how they did ozil...especially if that was their reason for dumping him

Yeah Ozil was quite shit during his last few years at Arsenal. Lost his desire.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
Ozil is just like Bale and Isco. crazy talented but no desire. and people blame the coach or the club for it. it's purely players fault.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
I support özil in his off-field problems and views but as a player he loves to make a victim of himself and is rather annoying. Forgettable career as an entire whole given where he was projected to be. His fault alone.
