Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
A lot of these small clubs seem to have high expectations. Swansea are 12th, they're not in the relegation zone or anything. Laudrup shouldn't have been sacked.

Overrated manager. None of his teams ever qualified for Europe (even Europa) anywhere. Managers like Montanier, Pellegrini, Garcia, etc. who took their teams to trophies and/or European spots against the odds are the real deal... finishing 9th means what exactly lol. Even AVB deserves a lot more praise than Laudrup.

So it's not a qualifying, if you win a cup? Also Brøndby qualified for Europe when he won the league with them in what I think was 04/05.
Swansea firing the manager that brought them their first ever trophy, seriously wat.. Where did they think they would be at in the table, when comparing their squad to the other teams? they've played above their level last season, and this season they've been plague by injury.
Couldn't care less about that team anymore. Should have happened this summer, before renewing Morten Olsen, so he could be our new NT coach.

In your warped, twisted little mind maybe.
But in reality he got credit for the job he did.... like taking Swansea to their highest ever PL finish and the only trophy in their history and navigating them through a group stage this season which included Valencia.
They have struggled this season due to a lot of injuries and not having a big enough squad to deal with 3 competitions at once.
Anything else is just usual stupidity/agenda driven crap from your good self.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
He got fired in Russia from Spartak, he got fired in Spain from a mid table team and now he gets fired in EPL from a mid table team... and it's not like he was there long. He was fired during his first year at Spartak, after 1 year at Mallorca and into his 2nd year at Swansea. In the middle of those three gigs, he went unemployed for a year. That should pretty much tell you how he's rated out there. His career win % is 44%... which was mightily aided by his 4 years at Brondby at 58%. In his last 3 gigs, Spartak Moscow, Mallorca and Swansea.... he's won 45, drawn 37 and lost 57. Average numbers (to below average) for an average manager.
He's been managing for 12 years now so you can't say he's new, etc.
Yes, he's better than Pardew. But does that make him a good manager?

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
isn't it typical for small clubs who overperform and reach the Europa League to get stretched next season and battle relegation?
In Bundesliga, Frankfurt this season for example, other illustrious examples include the good old Club (1.FC Nürnberg) winning the cup and reaching 6th in the league one season, playing EL and getting relegated the next.
Happens to perfectly fine managers, too.

In the last seven years, Fergie is the only League Cup winning boss to still be in the same job by the day of the following season's final.
2007 Mourinho, 2008 Ramos, 2009 Fergie, 2010 Fergie, 2011 McLeish, 2012 Dalglish, 2013 Laudrup.

Nah. I reckon he would've done a better job than AVB for Spuds.sportsczy wrote:Overrated manager. None of his teams ever qualified for Europe (even Europa) anywhere. Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
See, arguments like this of yours are downright illogical.. AVB having highest point tally than Redknapp, Laudrup taking Swansea to highest ever PL finish etc. Both of them had significantly better squads than their counterparts. AVB also couldn't make the top 4 so faring a mighty 2 points better than their previous highest point tally under Redknapp doesn't justify his credibility.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Gil wrote:Very overrated manager. I can actually see Spuds getting Jaimie Lannister in the summer; would be a great fit for both parties imo

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
AVB had Spurs at or around 4th place his whole time there. The issue he had is that the Spurs can only attact kids... They don't have the brand to bring in wc talent. He got kids. The problem with kids is that a) some will develop and some won't, b) they're inconsistent and c) they require patience. Levy is a clown. you can't sign a bunch of kids and then fire the manager in the first season with them while being in CL striking range despite losing the EPL player of the year from last season.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
Huh? I thought everyone rated him and hes a top manager, how things change and ppl just say opposite things now
Dotn follow Swansea, but 12th arent that bad? I guess many teams now are really ambitious....but is it realistic to expect too much? Look at Fulham

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
I don't like Laudrup as a manger, he is nothing special, but surely this is an bad move from Swansea. He surely deserved to stay until the end of the season after winning them their first title ever. Even if that means going down.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
They wouldnt have gone down with laudrup in charge. Could have easily finished mid table.
And now they have a risk of going down. The new manager wont even have a transfer window to aid him.
Should have fired a month earlier (like their rivals cardiff) or shouldnt at all have sacked till season end. Poor decision.
p.s In FM 2013 i am playing btw, barca sacked pep owing to poor results and hired laudrup and they are unstoppable after that. lol

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
If the reason for sacking Laudrup was their bad run of results and not being safe from relegation by now, then by that logic every club in the bottom half of the table should have sacked their managers already. Mind you, this season early sackings have lifted two clubs massively, Sunderland and Crystal Palace, but neither of their previous managers were a good fit for the Premiership.
Perhaps Laudrup didn't object to leaving. Then it would make sense. He might have felt that after their very successful previous season the team had peaked and he wasn't that motivated himself any more and is perhaps looking forward to new challenges.

Honestly can't take a man who signs Jonjo *bleep* Shelvey and actually uses him seriously. The Swansea owners always seem to find a good manager for their team, if they can find a reputable manager to take charge soon it's going to be a good decision.

AVB DID finish top 4 in his first season. Chelsea won the CL so they weren't allowed to play CL.
And he was only 2 games out of the top 4 (with a very winnable next 5 games; Sherwood did well in those ffs) with a depleted injury list.

I don't understand either.
@Red Alert- that was Redknapp in 2011-2012. Spurs last season with AVB finished 5th with 72 points, one point behind Arsenal. Flopped like usual though, dropping stupid points to the likes of Wigan late in the season. As for your next point, I agree. Levy didn't, it's too bad.
Anyway, I like Laudrup, though I don't rate him as highly as some, I don't think he's a scrub either. Disagree with this sacking- yes the team hasn't been doing well, but they aren't going to get relegated, and it's not exactly Laudrup's fault. I do not know some of the motives behind the sacking that aren't known to the public, which I feel are playing a role here, however I think Swansea really should have stuck with him until the end of the season, especially considering how well they did last season.
