Sterling v Walcott Empty Sterling v Walcott

Post by Art Morte Sun Feb 02, 2014 9:29 am

Walcott is better.

But in the future who will reach a higher level at their peaks?

They are quite similar players and that's why I fancy comparing them, both have got blinding speed and this season Sterling has been playing very similar to Walcott, often looking to make that run behind defenders (as opposed to last season when Sterling tried to dribble much more and wasn't making those runs that often. Btw, I think he's a better dribbler than Walcott. Theo's finishing is better).

Premier League stats from when Walcott was 19, season 08/09: 1265 minutes, 2 goals, 2 assists. The season before Walcott scored 4 and assisted 3 in 1260 minutes.

Sterling turned 19 last December, here's his PL stats so far this season: 1150 minutes, 3 goals, 4 assists. Last season he had 1750 minutes and 2 goals, 6 assists.

So, very similar stats there. Who will eventually be the better player?

Walcott.

Sterling has too much to achieve before even being considered.
We can come back to this thread when Sterling can bang in 20 goals in a season.

I see what you are saying Art, But get ready for the hate incoming from Arsenal fans, They arent exactly in a good mood, right now. Stay safe.

Well, I did say Walcott is better right now x)

And with us playing Arsenal twice this month I thought it's the ideal time for this thread.

Personally I've been really impressed by how much better Sterling is playing this season compared to the last and am undecided on who I think will end up being the better player.

Walcott has not achieved anything that is out of Sterling's reach. Walcott is a good player nothing special.

29 goals and 21 assists in his last 43 matches from the right wing. That's nothing special?

Again, it is nothing that is out of Sterling's reach. Sure they are good numbers, but what has he achieved?
Sterling has also just turned 19. Imo he has a higher ceiling.

Sterling defensive work is so frickin impressive for a winger. It's Ribery-esque.

Walcott cannot be called a right winger given all his tendencies are of a pure wide forward.

At this very moment Walcott is miles ahead of a raw Sterling yet I didn't see Theo put these performances at age 18-19.

According to transfermarkt Walcott has 17 goals and 17 assists in his last 47 games in the league and CL (last and current season) playing as a right winger and another 4+3 in 7 games playing a different position.
That's very good but it's not really that great that you would say a talented youngster can't do it and of course goals and assists are not all that matters.

Stop overrating these youngsters.

Sterling reminds me of Sean Wright Philips tbh.

This comment may seem harsh but highburied has a point. people think its easy for a talented youngster to reach a high level. SWP is an example to everyone that it isnt. when SWP was a youngster he was extremely highly rated and was putting out incredible cameos like sterling is doing right now, look how he turned out.

we simply dont know how starling will turn out. Anyways its weird to compare the two because sterling is more of a winger that likes to come inside whilst walcott is more of a wide striker.

Sterling v Walcott Empty Re: Sterling v Walcott

Post by McAgger Mon Feb 03, 2014 3:52 pm

Sterling is completely different to SWP. Two things, first of all Sterling is deceptively strong. He's held the ball up better than Andy Carroll for us ffs absolutely no joke. His small frame may fool a lot of people but at 18 the kid has some monster genetics. Even Rodgers came out saying a couple of months ago how Sterling might possibly be the strongest player in the team with regards to core strength. SWP could've been brushed off the ball like a fly. Non contest.

Then Sterling's work ethic and defensive work rate is some of the best among wingers in the world. I'm talking about Ribery level here. Sterling is so impressive in this regard that Rodgers played him RB and RWB a couple of times season. That's right and he's held his own exceptionally well. Nothing like SWP.

And then finally in the attacking third Sterling's finally learning how to use his strengths and not try to be what he's not. His off the ball movement has improved ten folds this season. The kid is very impressive.

I think most of you remember him from last season and if you recall I used to bash his talents left and right. This season he's a completely different weapon.

BTW Sterling is going to the WC for Walcott barring any major injuries.

Walcott is currently better, however Sterling's younger. Sterling's a dribbling type winger, while Walcott is a goalscoring winger. If Sterling's end product gets better and he contributes with goals, he can be just as good as Walcott if not better.

Walcott does track back, picks the ball deep in the area, pass it to someone in the middle and runs behind the enemy line with light of speed to score the goal.

Want more?

His contribution to goals is one of the best in EPL.

Walcott has become a complete wide player.

Shame hes injured, really.

Also, not hating on sterling, hope he follows the steps of Walcott and not SWP.

When did I talk about overall goal tallies for them? They are crap and just meant to make a player look more than he is. I don't care if Messi, Ronaldo or Walcott or any other player scores in some cups no one but the current winner cares about. League and CL. That's it.

So Walcott scores the winner in an FA Cup final vs Manchester City, doesn't count for nought. Gotcha.

SWP was never good and flopped when he moved to a "big club" and he had that constant expectancy to perform in his head. One of the biggest reasons he flopped was mentally.

Sterling's already better, he's more talented and already plays at one of the biggest clubs in the world with no problems whatsoever; he has the better mindset. He's already overcame this "fear" he had, and has started to play his own game and is doing well at it.

He only really needs to fix his end product, which has been a problem for majority of his senior career albeit his still young. So can we stop talking about SWP please?

Well it would still be nothing more than a goal in a worthless cup.
Btw excluding cups wasn't even meant to play down Walcotts ability. It's just my way to look at things and has nothing to do with the player.
