Bayern Munich icon Kahn: Chelsea 'bought' the Champions League
Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn believes that money is now the decisive factor in football, arguing that the way in which Chelsea "bought" the Champions League is a case in point.
The Premier League outfit claimed the most prestigious prize in club football in 2012, after nine years of being bankrolled by Roman Abramovich, one of the richest men in the world.
Kahn believes that Chelsea's success underlined that money that now makes the footballing world go round.
"It is the deciding factor," the former Germany international told Kicker.
"For promotion to the Bundesliga, you now need a budget of 20 to 25 million euro. To win the Champions League, €300m.
"Abramovich bought the title but what makes make [Chelsea] any different to Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern?"
Uefa introduced Financial Fair Play Regulations in 2011 in the hope of curbing the spending of Europe's top clubs, with the aim of creating a more even playing field.

Hardly, considering our team lost when it was a better squad. That year, we won because of Cech, RDM and Drogba. Not our massive amount of money.
Also, Bayern kept spending till they won it.

what part of "Abramovich bought the title but what makes [Chelsea] any different to Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern?" don't people understand here?
he suggested that, at the end of the day, bayern didn't do much different.

Exactly. Kahn has a philosophical streak these days, he likes to muse about things, which usually results in the same unsurprising platitudes.
This time he's letting us in on the secret that indeed you need money to run a successful football club.

It's always fun to see who only reads the headline and who reads the whole article

It's because the TS chose to write misleading info in the threat title and it's pretty obvious half the people on here don't actually read the post.

lts a terrible article and doesn't make any sense. There is a difference though honestly, between saying "x team bought the champions league" and saying other teams spend a lot too so perhaps they aren't any different. Like saying "Bayern bought the champions league", directly is different, lm sure that may not have gone over as well. However how its written you have no clue if he indeed actually did say that about chelseas CL title.. . Context and phrasing is important which this article doesn't have.

He said it about every club and there's nothing wrong with top clubs spending money if they have it.

I've noticed that the OP has a habit of making any thread where a player or team rips on anti football or defensive football.
Quite frankly its getting boring and repetitive.

well he probably chose chelsea since they were pretty much irrelevant CLwise until good ol' roman took over. it's just a more fitting example than a traditional european powerhouse if you want to illustrate what money can do...
