Re: Wilshere charged by FA
I don't really agree with the role model things... off the pitch. But on the pitch they have an ethical obligation to behave in such a way that represents their employers' values.

Exactly. It's not about morals more broadly, but the relationship between the player and their club and the league administrators. Players are employees of the clubs and clubs are members of the FA. Therefore, they need to behave in a way that represents their employers' values and the FA's values. What players do in their own time is not the FA's concern, but I never suggested it was.

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
It was clearly done in a mocking fashion, which is offensive. Scoring goals is different and has nothing to do with purposely angering the opponents, but running the length of the pitch to purposely slide in front of the rival fans obviously does.Forza wrote:Surely you jest... Players can celebrate wherever they want on the field, but celebrating does not include offensive gestures. You can't charge someone for causing aggravation if what they have done is not offensive in the first place. We might as well ban scoring goals because that will aggravate fans of the other team.Eman wrote:+1DuringTheWar wrote:Adebayor sprinted 80 yards to celebrate a goal in front of the other teams fans. I guarantee that caused far more aggravation than that gesture. But he got no ban for it.
Priorities are all over the place, trivial stuff always seems to be disproportionately punished nowadays (in most aspects of life)

There is an argument to say that scoring against a rival club is definitely for the purpose of angering the opponents, but that's an aside.Eman wrote:It was clearly done in a mocking fashion, which is offensive. The main point is that there is a limit to what a player can do on the pitch towards the fans. Although, I would suggest that limiting the areas on the field where a player can celebrate a goal is a draconian response for the sake of not angering fans of a team who have just conceded a goal. The fans should feel angry when a former player scores against their team whilst playing for a rival club. Rivalry is part of the game and there is no pre-existing rule that prevents players from celebrating in front of opposition fans, nor are players discouraged from doing so. Conversely, there is a rule against known offensive gestures (I presume) and it is discouraged by the club and the FA.

Wherever you stand on the goal/celebration/fingergesturing, I think we can all agree that Adebayor should always be banned because.

Not that i agree with Wilshere's actions, but a bit of common sense is needed here
someone smoked weed with slags in an orgy on the pitch???? on television broadcast to children??????? what game was that in? and how did they not get suspended???? where can i download it and watch it that sounds hilarious!

Because Liverpool fans have the world is against us BS mentality doesn't mean English players get away with things.
Suarez was banned repeatedly because he repeatedly acts like a c*ntbag no other reason.
Deal with it.
Yea. the same mentality that got Defoe a yellow card for biting Mascherano, and Suarez 10 match ban for biting Ivanovic.
give over
I remember also Suarez banned 8 Â matches for racism while Terry " only " 4.
For me it was really inexplicabile

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
*bleep* bullshit
Non-Englishmen in the form of Luis Suarez, Deco, Thierry Henry and now Jack Wilshere all receive a match (or more) ban while the Englishmen continue to cavort away in their lenient bans by the FA.
If he was English it wouldn't even be a fine.

Wilshere is 1/16 Icelandinc for those wondering. His great grandfather had a romantic journey with an Icelandic women, rumored to be from reign of Erik the red, when he went on a soul searching journey to Iceland many decades ago. They had a kid and that kid is wild here's grand father''s father.

American striker, Olivier 'Captain America' Giroud, was photographed reacting to the news that his French teammate Jacque Wilsheaux is set to be suspended for two matches following inappropriate gestures to Manchester City customers fans.

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
I can confirm that Giroud's great great great grandfather was an English sailor who sailed to the New World for a new life. He was later outraged at the ridiculous prices of tea in the colonies and proceeded to throw tea from ships at Boston. So I can guarantee you he will not be banned since he is English. The FA is truly a disgrace.
