Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:People are going to be decieved by Barca tbh.
They have lost one relevant game.... Ajax don't count as they already qualified ( look at Bayern etc etc)
Not bad for a team which is supposedly past it, they are far too good for City.
Well considering Barca themselves were praying not to draw City you sort of have to feel that Barca will have to be at their best if they want to be in the next round....
- Spoiler:
Personally I feel City will need every ounce of their quality if they want to go through, Barca are still the favourites. However, City is a terrible match up for the cules on paper from a purely physical stand point and it's not like City's players are not technically sound either.
Should be interesting, I expect Barca to go through, but City have what it takes.

Re: Champions League last 16 draw discussion
Tomwin, you need to calm down a bit bruh.
United topped their CL group. They couldn't face City and Arsenal due to them being English. So that eliminates them 2 as possible difficult fixtures.
Then we couldn't face Dortmund, Bayern, Barca, Real, Atletico, Chelsea(eng) and PSG due to them all being group winners.
So apart from Milan maybe, the rest were all 'lesser teams' when it comes to this comp. We were always going to get a favourable draw regardless.
It's not United's fault. So why all the hate?

PSG and Monaco dominating the league and performing in Europe thereby creating a sizeable distance between the rest = Good for OM apparently.

I laugh at OM right now... our management is pathetic and has been pathetic for 15 years now. If you can't laugh at yourself in these cases, then you're not really being real.Tomwin Lannister wrote:I doubt you'd be so happy for PSG if there were 15 PSG fans on GL laughing at OM every step of the way
Besides, hating is for jealous people. I'm not jealous of PSG because we were PSG back in the early 90s with massive monies... we still have a lot of money. It's really down to bad management.

Nah i agree Zeal but people are really overreacting with this past it stuff.
They are still one of the 3 major teams to beat what ever you think of them.
I actually think they are better than they were last year.

you can't really complain about psg's group when all you had to do was beat galata freacking saray and copenhagen ..
This is not about Juventus though.
This is about an Oil club getting extremely fortunate for two straight years. If only City had that luck.
Why are you bringing Juve into this? We FLOPPED in the CL, let's not pretend i'm having a go at other teams to try and mask that, i'll happily admitt that we sucked
This isn't about Juve, if I was a f*cking Wigan fan it wouldn't make a difference
because i don't think psg got any more " lucky " than juventus .
your group was super easy this year , and last year you faced celtic in the second round after qualifying from a rather winnable group ( i don't rate shakhtar at all ) .

Re: Champions League last 16 draw discussion
Having elite and world-branded teams in Ligue 1 is great for it... i don't care what people say. It's up to OM to up their game. That's what i want and the pressure is going to be there now... asking for a mediocre league so that OM can win it is not my idea of success.
To each his own though.

You cant compete financially with PSG or Monaco and i really doubt you'd be fighting for something relevant with them.
OM will be like the Sevilla of Ligue 1.Dont know how much its going to help OM when all the spotlight will be laid on PSG and Monaco. Its going to be an inferior La Liga going into the future.

I agree with what Surag said, i really don't know how Milan fans are celebrating with this draw on Twitter and whatnot. They actually believe Atletico is a scrub team. I cannot see us getting past them, considering our recent history of Spanish teams. Damn Abbiati for wanting to face them ffs

Re: Champions League last 16 draw discussion
Shakhtar were being tipped as 'dark horses' by some people, when they had Willian and Mhk
Chelsea, rate them or not were the reigning CL champions. No excuses we should have qualified this season, but last season our group was far from easy
Only Barca had won away in Ukraine against Shakhtar in recent times before we won there.

Seems to have worked for Germany tbh despite Bayern's overreaching domination of that league, results in Europe for the Bundesliga have improved over the years. Clubs like Leverkusen are likely to sh*t the bed but German clubs have gone further than they have in the past.
I could say the same about Spain if Atletico can keep hold of their status over the next few years. Or if financially stable clubs like Bilbao, Villarreal or La Real can build on their very solid foundations.
Long term, having super clubs eventually benefits the other clubs in that league. On the pitch it helps other teams get used to playing against elite teams. Off the pitch it can be said that these clubs bring money into the league itself, if not via transfer fees then through an improved TV rights deal (La Liga excluded).

Dunno I see City at home winning by 2 goals, it will probably depend on if Barca can steam roll through them in Spain.

If you don't think OM have money and will have more with the new stadium, you have no idea about us... which i know you don't
Here's the revenue per club:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deloitte_Football_Money_League#2011.E2.80.9312
OM is in the top 20 in Europe with over 130 mil in revenue. We spent approx 50 mil euros over the summer with Thauvin, Payet, Imbula, Mendy, Lemina and Khlifa. Issue is not money at all... we have the same spending power as Roma and Dortmund for example. Our management is poor. We can only blame ourselves.

Kingston ffs
BTW it amazes me how many people don't realise how good Atletico are.
Barca are only above them in the table by scoring one more goal
1!
I said this when i saw the seedings but some one is in for a rude awakening when Atleti knock them out.

That doesnt mean Leverkusen or Schalke are going to feast on Bayern's success though.Leverkusen and Schalke have their level and they wont go beyond that.Same applies to OM unless they get themselves a sugar daddy.
Its not like the situation is great in La Liga either.Barca's and Madrid's success and hence the claim to greater financial deals have actually made the league worser economically. Why cant the same be applied to Ligue 1 when you have two teams who's going to have all the spotlight and are going to buy the best players in the world ? Who'd seriously be interested in watching a dire OM when you have Falcao and Cavani playing for their respective teams ?

Once the Stadium renovations are finished OM are going to have a secure financial future.
Another thing I don't think people appreciate is how deeply supported OM actually are. The entire city of Marseilles (who live and breathe football) supports OM, that means OM will always have a solid foundation to build on. It's all about the fan base and OM's isn't any worse than other top clubs.
Like you said, it comes down to management.

That money list makes for depressing reading.
Despite our joke commercial revenue we are 20th....yet we can't afford to buy anyone according to our wonderful owner

Re: Champions League last 16 draw discussion
Arsenal underestimated the relevance of finishing first in the group. They couldve easily finished at top as well.
I mean wtf was that szesny time wasting with the ball at his feet when they were down 1-0 ?

Exactly. That wouldnt be enough to compete with PSG and Monaco. As long those two are there you'd never be a force in the league atleast speaking economically.
And those revenue figures mean shit all btw.

Arsenal have to beat a team the caliber of Bayern to go through anyway. Don't see the big deal. I rather a marquee tie like that than a cupcake draw that United, Dortmund and Madrid got.

Re: Champions League last 16 draw discussion
It's not even just in Marseilles... OM is loved by many regionally. Just one of those things.
Also, since Marseille was chosen as the European cultural city for 2013, a lot of the city has been cleaned up and embellished. TBH, i like going there right now because it's become a great city to visit... didn't often say that in the past.
