Atleti don't have that much talent. They're just a well organized & cohesive unit.

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V3
I think tactically the laliga teams are alot more organised. You almost never see the sea of space between the midfield and defence in laliga like we usually see in premier league. Hence why Bale hasn't had a single shot on target from outside the box. he just can't cut in and shoot like he is used to because teams don't allow that here. But guys like Ronaldo and Bale will always prevail because they do so much more than just standing still in a position waiting for the ball to get to them. Bales last goal vs Valladolid just shows this. If only our striker could do that
However if I were to buy a defender the laliga would be the last league I looked in because they are all so poor. the sheer amount of attacking by more or less all teams isn't making them any favours but fact still stands they are abysmal and really can't defend. probably why teams get their whole team to defend as opposed to letting the forwards camp up top and let the midfielder press half and half

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V3
La Liga reffing, which allows no contact lol, and that La Liga defenses like to play high while EPL defenses are very low... has led Bale to get most of his opportunities making runs in the box behind the defenders. Because of where he's getting his opportunities, he's a lot more efficient in la liga.
Also, the creative talent level around Bale at Madrid is 100000x more than at Spurs. So he doesn't need to take needless risks... he's a smart player. He allows his teammates to set him up in good positions as opposed to being selfish.
This year has proven to me that Bale is a very good tactical player. Has plenty of smarts to go with his skill.

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V3
anyway even Serie A is decreasing about defences
I've never seen so many results as " 3-3 " and similar results , as this year...
yesterday it's been the second time that Inter tied with a similar result, and it's a club of defensive setting ...
however I think even the worst series A has a defensive reliability better than Liga
Premier League is definitely the best product at the moment , I find it hard to argue this

Hull beating Swansea 1-0 at the moment, Danny Graham scored for first time in god knows how long.
Couple of quotes from Sunderland fans on their loaned striker getting Hull at the moment 12 points clear of them

Sound analysis, what with Serie A being disgraceful this year with its shoddy defenses. Fio, Milan, Napoli, Lazio and Inter have all let in more goals than they should have. Only Roma and Juve can be excused (Mind, they started out somewhat badly but got their act together)

I think we can agree that organisation on the whole has taken a massive nosedive.
Everyone talks about individual defenders of the past but the biggest difference to me was how the likes of Maldini, Thuram etc etc organised their back 4s.... its very rare to see the leader anymore.

It's a fullback issue on defense. Also, i think that you have better rounded midfielders nowadays. Back 10-15 years, you had one guy responsible for making the killer passes... the number 10. That's disappeared mostly. The attacking has become more unpredictable imo.

This is an excellent point. What exactly would you blame this on?
I think teams encouraging their fullbacks to get further forward and deploying "ball playing" defenders and even Goalkeepers at the back definitely has a part to play.
Ten years ago all that mattered was keeping a clean sheet at all costs these days defenders are expected to do more.
I also maintain rule changes and strict officiating have a part to play in the continuous deterioration of defending. The game favours these fleet-footed players nowadays when that was far from the case a decade ago. Look at La Liga and the card happy refs.

Atkinson is such an awful ref. just robbed Hull a blatant penalty. Clear handball from that Swansea player.

It looks cool, but not incredible by any means, even I've done that a few times and I'm a glorified rec league player.
If it was a full field clearance with that type of height and he just controlled it like that then that would be magnificent.

Idk man, maybe a good trap but I highly doubt you could take it on your foot just like that. You see great controls like this a fair amount but it's never this impeccable. Anyhow, just another standard day for Berbatov. I saw he had a great heal flick assist or something in the same game I think, can anyone find that?
I'm in awe of the guy constantly. Really would like to see Spurs try and snatch him in the January transfer window.

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V3
^ It wasn't an assist CBarca.
Berbatov flicked it into the path of Kacaniklic (sp?) who won the penalty. Did it so casually, too. He has tremendous technique. Can't find a gif, unfortunately.

said this... Berbatov has important technical qualities , I remember so well he was considered the Bulgarian Ibrahimovic, the player closest to him as profile 5-6 years ago
but he proved to be too much discontinuous then

^ Liverpool can't play away from home.
Luis won't get the support needed to beat Spurs on his own, unless he gets a free kick in which case there's a 90% chance he'll score it this season.
