Well, its obvious Roma was hungrier the entire game and wanted it more. GG, just wish Roma-Juve games weren't as controversial as they always are.

Dat atmosphere.
De Rossi is one beautiful specimen I have to say. Dat beard is incredible.

Giovinco is really awful for these matches.

tbh, giovinco was really a thorn in Roma's side for some of the game. Quag daddy was nonexistent.
Re: The 2013-14 Calcio Saga Episode II
Peluso legit goal denied
Benatia last man tackle = yellow
still struggles to beat Juve B team whilst fielding first 11
yet refs are on Juve's side

Let it go, Elm.
Juve had a myriad of open chances and yet skied every one of them. They didn't manage a single shot on goal. This from a side that was so clinical just 2 weeks ago against Roma. You can't blame the ref for you're own team's inability to put their shots on goal.

Re: The 2013-14 Calcio Saga Episode II
Brilliant match. Very fascinating tactical battle despite its disparity in pace between the sides.
As a whole Roma set the tempo brilliantly by rushing at Juventus from the inception of the match. It worked in dominating the midfield yet Roma lacked the guile in the final third to penetrate Juve who looked quite composed in defence, Bonnuci in particular standing out with class within the centre.
Point to note was Juve chose to counter rather than keep the ball unless from the back, Marchisio and Vidal mostly drifting wide to assist the somewhat incongruent partnership between Giovinco and Quagliarella. Juve lost the midfield battle in that decision to push his midfielders wide especially considering Isla and Peluso would have better acted as wingbacks than the withdrawn fullbacks they were on display.
Totti while on the ball sought excellent creative solutions yet too often was in poor positions to receive a pass, crowded right central within the Juve midfield, as they chose to crowd upon him the most.
Strootman stood out well providing the assist for Gervinho from splitting Pjanic pass, often providing excellent tracking back to compliment Garcia's intense vertical movement up and down the pitch.
Florenzi was solid in the first half with his positions and passes exploited yet cut less influence in the 2nd as he grew tired.
Torosidis one of three of Roma's best players in his inverted LB role. His initiatives to move the ball forward up the pitch with ease caused Juve quite a bit of trouble, his shots tested their defence.
De Rossi MOTM. Consistently controlled the midfield in more withdraw role. Kept the midfield ticking and made some wonderful passes. Was an absolute rock all night when met against the incoming Juve counter-attack though a bit more static than usual.
Pjanic was the key substitution when coming on his flair and creativity unlocking what was an eventually stale round of possession from Roma. Juve had no answer for him on the ball, even unable to win the physical battles he posed so vitally in lead towards the goal.
Conte's resorted to his system to which has failed him in Europe, the cautious defensive approach to which sacrifices Marchisio and draws Pirlo into an uncomfortable role to screen the defence. His decision to resort into this shell has been the sole cause of his failures versus Bayern and the initial group stage approach this year. That is Conte's Juve at its worst, when Conte succumbs to his pragmatic side to which will never work in a more modern Serie A and Europe, unless against the provincial sides.
Wonderful match as a whole. Much respect for Roma and their fans showing an excellent display of football towards a side who almost mentally crippled them that night in Torino.

Re: The 2013-14 Calcio Saga Episode II
The likes of Isla show why they should never start for Juventus, such awful footballers
That being said, without going into too much detail. We just held our own with 6 first team players out against a full strength Roma team in Rome
The goal was legit, but ruled out for some odd reason. Roma deserved it though, Conte just seems to disregard the coppa every year.

.
This, also. No matter who is in our line up, this 'tactic' Conte deploys has only ever worked for us.... against Celtic.

BTW Bonucci's goal was disallowed because the ball went over the line when it was crossed in.

Peluso scored it, and yeah that was the reason. But any replays I seen showed the ball in play.
Not overly bothered anyway, we didn't deserve to win and if we did, Conte would feel justified in his choice to use these horrible tactics.

If Lazio beat Napoli in the Coppa then there could be 3 capital derbies within 6 days.

Unless you can track the shadow of the ball in that picture, that's not a good angle to determine whether the call was right honestly.
we need an angle that can see the ball either to the left, right or dead on center of the line.

Re: The 2013-14 Calcio Saga Episode II
Ciro Ferrara believes that this season's title race is already over, claiming that Roma, Napoli and Fiorentina are merely scrapping to see who finishes second to Juventus.
Antonio Conte's men are currently eight points clear of the Giallorossi, who are four and seven points clear of the Partenopei and Viola, respectively.
Consequently, while Ferrera was mightily impressed by Roma's performance in knocking Juventus out of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday night, the former Bianconeri defender does not believe that it changes anything in terms of the battle for the Scudetto.
"It was an enjoyable game between two great teams playing good football," the ex-Napoli boss said of the quarter-final clash at the Stadio Olimpico in an interview with Tuttosport.
"Roma were more incisive and deserved their passage into the next round. But has it reopened the championship race? It was never open!
"Juventus, technically and in terms of how they play, are superior to all of the others.
"It's a championship in which everyone else is playing for second place - as first place has already been decided.
"[Second] is a fight between Roma and Napoli, even though I wouldn't exclude Fiorentina, given the great season they're having.
"Napoli can do it, but it will be difficult if Roma continue as they are."
