The 2013-14 Calcio Saga Episode II - Page 26 Empty Re: The 2013-14 Calcio Saga Episode II

Post by Arquitecto Sun Jan 19, 2014 10:35 pm

My brief post-match thoughts from the Milan section:

Me wrote:Immediately with the 4-2-3-1, to which changed into a 4-5-1 in defence, our pressing was organized and far more aggressive than under Max. Attack was composed of quick transitions in a side that was effectively built around Ricky, to which he had a role without any shackles, and it worked very well. Robinho played the El Shaarawy role yet looked out of his depth there considering he cannot take half of the responsibility SES has on and off the ball at this point. Honda had a SOLID game yet looked isolated on the RAM role, obvious given it would be like that with a free role Kaka. Birsa on-paper looked to be the right choice considering he is a far better choice than Honda IN THAT ROLE. He was not spectacular, but Birsa linked up well when coming in.

Problem lay with our dual pivot, in which Monty and de Jong both lack the pace to perform with such responsibility, despite Monty having quite a good game on the offence. de Jong was below his usual as he was overrun along with his distribution missing the mark a few to many times.

Defence was suspect aside from De Sciglio, who also looked off his tangent as times, struggling with the unbearable conditions.

Milanisti quite simply did not realize what an excellent team Verona is, a team that attacks with deadly venom and who are organized within the defensive flank. Yet the sheer fact that we dominated a team who has dominated the better teams in Serie A, is a very positive sign.

Problem is we lacked the urgency to make a midfield transition from defence to attack. I would have thought Poli is the perfect man to troubleshoot that crisis yet he was not even subbed in tonight. We lacked guile in most parts of the matches yet that is expected given Seedorf has had less than a week to prepare along with not even having his desired training staff on board. His changes quite obviously will be incremental rather than drastic in the course of this season, which works given that our players will be under far too much inertia to reach that zone of mentality.

Yet there IS a clear and concise idea that Clarence aims to implement based on what we saw tonight, despite it portrayed in all its raw form.

Notes:
-Right from the get-go we have understood the side will be built around Ricky Kaka. He lacks pace and stamina (as displayed by his 2nd half fatigue) yet carries the responsibility with perfect elegance and creates very well.

-Robinho's SES role was confirmation to me, that Stephan will have a large role in this, especially given his ability to speed up play and have us look better as a team will be vital to crux the system within the left-to-central side.

-Honda will find it hard to perform if he is placed on the right again, benching Kaka is not an option. Honda can play deep very well yet prefers to be an attacking midfielder, as his one-touch play, dribbles and vision is better utilized there.

-Dual pivot with Monty-De Jong might not work solely based on their lack of pace, their understanding of the game will be their only saviour if success is within that department.

-Rami-Mexes must be implemented as soon as possible.

-Balotelli has disgusting movement off-the-ball often expecting the ball to traverse to him as Pazzo's movement would have been much appreciated tonight. Balo on the ball is a magician yet being the central focal point of the 4-2-3-1, he will not succeed if he does not improve his finishing or off-ball movement.

-Defence WAS more aware than usual and chose to anticipate rather than react as usual.

-Conditions such as these make it further hard to judge us, considering players calibrate themselves to compromise based on the muddy conditions, severely hampering our ability to execute such a ball-playing system. Keep this in mind.

-Seedorf's arrival has just injected a new energy to the club and fans. Our stadium despite less than 50k was as loud as any other stadium and chanted non-stop. Its about time we have a manager who both sets can appreciate and support as the split between was tiresome. It transcends to our training, to our atmosphere and to the pitch. That extra tangent can make all the difference.

-Have concerns on how close Seedorf is to the squad as evidenced by his more than friendly approach to the senatore and some of the stars. We need him to be more a leader than a friend to our players as otherwise this will be Montella at Roma V2.0

As for Naingolan, he has played for Belgium 5-6 times yet being in Cagliari meant he is hardly ever scouted. I'm not surprised people are praising him as I've always noted on how complete he is. Should easily start for Belgium's deep end midfield.

Inter will most likely end up under Milan in the table when the season is over, even after the significant point difference we have/had before our annual downfall.

2013-14 #SerieA match-day 20 insights:

55 - #Juventus have collected 55 points after the first 20 MDs: a record in a 3 points per win Serie A championship. March.

5 - #Fiorentina haven't conceded goals in their last 5 league games - their longest run in a single Serie A campaign since 1981-82. Solid.

8 - Inter have only won 8 games so far in this Serie A campaign, last season the Nerazzurri had won 12 in the first 20 match-days. Letdown.

11 - #ACMilan have scored 11 goals in the last 15 minutes of play in Serie A this term, a season-record. Patience.

1 - Lazio were the 1st side to win a game from trailing situation with a men down in Serie A since Jan 2013 (Sampdoria vs Juventus). Belief.

2 - Alessandro #Matri scored 2 goals from 2 shots on his debut for Fiorentina, he had netted only one from 22 shots with AC Milan. Motivation.

4 - Rolando Bianchi has scored 4 goals in Serie A against Napoli, his joint-favorite target in the top flight. Mock.

3 - Verona defender Alejandro González has conceded 3 penalties this season, more than any other Serie A player. Calamity.

Coppa Italia Fixtures this week

Roma - Juve
Roma to get a victory over Juve in the cup as revenge for their Serie A defeat.

Milan - Udinese
Seedorf to continue to improve the team, but experiment with some young players too.

Fiorentina - Siena
Local derby between the old city-state enemies.

Napoli - Lazio
Napoli may rest some players because Serie A is their main objective. Lazio are desperate to retain the cup because it's their only real chance at silverware.

Depends how mant first team players we use

If we bench most of our midfield, and some of our defence then Roma will get a fake revenge win with their full team

But if we want to go for a mini-treble then I expect to see Vidal and friends come on if things turn sour.

Inter shouldn't have sacked Strama tbh. I know he ended the season awfully but his incredible start suggested he was a progressive and promising manager. Injuries, Cassano and the shit players Branca brought in made him look bad.

He was also pretty good at making in-game adjustments.

Strama indeed is a very talented manager. Yet he was afflicted in what Bhends and Vibe annoint as the "Inter curse", in which any promising manager, no matter how courageous and attacking, is stripped down into a pragmatic and timid shell of themselves who have an affinity for the same tactics and players their predeccessors have used. Some say it was Jose Mourinho's departure and his silent words that cursed the fate of his successors. Some say it was in fact Massimo Morrati's gape toothed cackle that emasculates the coaches into what they become.

As for Cassano, he had quite a good season for Inter, aside from some inconsistencies regarding attitude. Many great performances come to mind.

Post by Robespierre Tue Jan 21, 2014 6:13 am

Stramaccioni? He has surely talent , I like(d) him ,but he proved too inexperienced and he lost ones bearings (as he admitted), Moratti totally was wrong to move him too quickly  from Primavera squad to  first squad , he needed of experience, expecially if you coach Inter.the sack of Claudio Ranieri was avoidable .But he was in a hurry because of  NextGen Series won against a great Ajax from Stramaccioni.....
It's never been easy to coach Inter because the society rarely  supports you fully (starting from the market transfers) and you stay at the mercy of events

Mourinho wasn't simply a coach, he made all,he defended Inter by journalists in 2 years more than maangers/Moratti have done in 15 years, for this reason he was considered Legend already before of 2010

and these 2 years have caused an exasperated widowhood (Maradona-esque for Napoli fans..) who didn't help Inter paradoxically

Yes as said above his ghost did not help anyone ( but all coaches also had faults..anyway...) the journalists gave pressure to all with this approach, Stramaccioni was named " Stramouccioni " after some wins .. this bringed really bad luck I have to admitt

LAst september Stramaccioni's sqad was definitely better than this l, we could have Cassano (he plays well only first part of season and something in second..but at least he does it) , Coutinho (he began well, but the injure in Inter-Partizan closed his adventure to Inter pratically..) , Sneijder (only on paper, yes) , Alvarez (good this year but never considered from Strama before of other injures) to create game...
Then in January we distroyed all. Iinexplicably

Since 2010 we think expecially to capital gains and these are results , inevitably mediocre results.
Stramaccioni lost control of situation and it was impossible to confirm him after having broken too many negative records.(2nd worst defence of Serie A, despite great Handanovic.). He lost legitimacy in the eyes of players. I was sorry to admitt it but it sounded unavoidable

Anyway even an expert coach as Mazzarri is having difficulties.
Both very unlucky with referees to be fair ... it's easier to image Mourinho beaten at Stamford Bridge than a penalty for Inter this year..

The future continues to be hazy . Simeone said to want coaching Inter a day. He is the chosen one. The heir of J.M. The last coach to have beaten Mourinho in a Cup . What better way to zap the ghost?

but anyway it useless to poke fun . No important manager would coach Inter with this Lotito-esque management (selling before to buy, low salary cup for players.)
. We are going to make another capital gain tomorrow. Another  high salary saved . I am so excited.

I would really like Strammacioni to coach Italy U21 in the future. He is a promising and talented coach and he would do well with the youth team while also gaing more experience.

Roma are not looking for revenge against Juve honestly. Garcia has said it and while many fans want revenge, I personally do not.

They were the better side and I have very little qualms about that.

Even worse-the way it is going for Honda, he will be playing under Pippo Inzaghi for tomorrow's Udinese Coppa Italia clash.

Don't ask me what will happen to Seedorf.

The difference that Pjanic made when he came on is stunning. Brilliant take off from Juve from him split the defence for Strootman who crosses it well to Gervais, finishing well with his sole.

Roma cannot sell Pjanic. He is priceless.

Brilliant ovation for Totti despite a less influential game than normal.

Just as I type this, Whittle says "Our rivals Lazio" by mistake rofl

His reaction to Pjanic's dribble between 4 men while breaking his voice was hilarious. "Why go to PSG when you can play football like this in Roma".
