Re: Liverpool v. Southampton: 15.00 Saturday 21st September 2013
I get what your saying stevieg8, we are not even close to full strength right now, but that was the purpose of getting some depth, teams like soto at home should be put away.
If you asked me would i of been happy with 10 points from 5 games before the season, i would of taken it no doubt. But would of thought we would of dropped points to united and WBA/Villa, expectations changed after the first 3 games.
We should of been 5/5.

Re: Liverpool v. Southampton: 15.00 Saturday 21st September 2013
4 centre backs and we concede from a corner. 1-0 down and 2 unforced changes made after 60 minutes just shows how wrong he got it today. The one thing we were good at last season was scoring goals and now we look incapable of creating a chance. Our only hope this season has been trying to get Sturridge on the ball with a sight of goal.
When you think about it, we haven't even created a goal yet. Against Stoke it was just a shot from 25 yards, against Villa it was individual brilliance to go past 2 or 3 players, against United it was a flick on and a tap in from a corner and against Swansea we were given the ball twice and allowed to shoot on goal.

This is what baffled me, 4 big CB's and we concede from a bloody corner. Re: Liverpool v. Southampton: 15.00 Saturday 21st September 2013
Disappointing. Southampton looked way too comfortable dealing with everything we had in our locker.
Sterling was our best player in the second half and should by now be ahead of Aspas in the pecking order.
I thought Sturridge and Moses were fairly good, which feels weird when we don't score at Anfield and don't even create clear-cut chances. Bloody hell, hardly even half-chances. Towards the end it went from ridiculous to amusing how many long balls we were desperately trying. Toure in particular needs to be told that Carroll's been sold and over-the-top,-forward-outrunning-defender,-controlling-the-ball-and-scoring FIFA -esque goals don't really happen that much in real life.
Alberto, he hardly touched the ball when he came on. He was just jogging about! I would have thought that he'd at least be running his socks off there, a young newcomer looking to do well, if nothing else happened, but no. No nothing.
Blah.

We look clueless without Coutinho & Suarez! So my question is apart from Mignolet how has the overall squad benefited

Our home end is a joke as well, they should be singing their socks off, the crowd can influence the game.

We were missing 4 key attacking outlets
1.Suarez
2.Cou
3.Jose (for most of the game)
4.Glen
I'm not surprised we didn't create jack all today, i'm heavily disappointed but i would be extremely worried if we played like this with all them 4 on the pitch. End of the day, at least were doing better than last season.

You try working 50 hours a week and paying £700 for a season ticket to watch shite like that week in, week out and come back to me saying the fans are a joke. They could be better, but I wouldn't be in much mood to sing and shout watching footballers stroll around, not breaking a sweat while we lose 1-0 to a side that were in league 1 a few years ago.mr-r34 wrote:Our home end is a joke as well, they should be singing their socks off, the crowd can influence the game.

Gerrard and Lucas are clueless against a half decent opposition who presses them.

I don't know about you all but today i felt we need Allen back! He has one trait that seems very vital for us now. Control balls in midfield!!! Gerrard has been below par for the last two games!
Btw when is Allen going to be fit again??

You just need to look outside England to see fans around the world, who barley make any money, have nothing going for them singing and making it look as easy as anything. Regardless how shit your team plays, you sing till you cant sing no more.El Jefe wrote:You try working 50 hours a week and paying £700 for a season ticket to watch shite like that week in, week out and come back to me saying the fans are a joke. Look guys, I think we can agree that both the fans and the players should have done better.
Btw, after there's been much CB debate lately and who's better than who, I suppose it's fair to mention that it was Agger who failed to mark Lovren in that corner..

We don't need to throw money around, and we certainly don't need to rip off the fans.mr-r34 wrote:You can't have it both way's, if your all for wanting investment and money thrown at your club and wanting to be in one of the best leagues in the world, you expect them prices.El Jefe wrote:It's because their clubs don't charge ridiculous prices
Do you really think it's a coincidence that the best atmospheres come from outside of England where supporters don't have to pay stupid prices, which allows more passionate local fans to go?

Perhaps the crowd could have been more inspirational, but to be perfectly fair, there was very little to get excited about. You can certainly argue that the crowd should have been more of a factor, but it's hard to see them having any impact on our attacking play when we fielded 4 CBs.Art Morte wrote:Btw, could totally have used Carroll, at least off the bench
Agger is a very good defender in open play. However, we've seen that his set-piece marking is somewhat lacking. Every now and then he just loses focus and his man gets a free-header. I haven't watched many replays of the goal, but I believe Lovren had plenty left to do when he got to the ball. It was far from an easy header. Fair play to him for taking advantage of a difficult chance.
Carroll certainly would've been a good outlet for the long-ball today. However, a far better strategy would've been to field ball-players in defense that can get themselves out of trouble. We repeatedly tried to bring it out of from the back to no avail, because we fielded 4 CBs. 4 CBS would work against some teams, but Southampton consistently press high up on opponents. our lineup played right into their hands. Johnson, Enrique, Cissokho, Kelly, Wisdom, and even McLaughlin could've all helped us play out of the back, beat Southampton's pressure, and play to our strengths. Any of those players would have been every bit as much help as Carroll, or more (because Johnson and Enrique occasionally score).

Sterling, Sturridge and Aspas were awful.
4 CB's and still conceded from a corner. Gerrard and Lucas CM partnership was horrible. They were clueless in the second half, Both were ball watching most of the times.
Lucas had a decent first half, Toure was probably MOM.

Anything dangerous in the second half came from those two.
I don't get it why I see people slamming Sterling's performance in this match, not just on here, too. He kept the ball really well and was able to beat defenders and looking to make good runs. We had absolutely zero going on attack wise through the middle, at least Raheem offered something tangible in attack with his good dribbling. He had that one disappointing heavy touch when could have been through on goal, but overall I thought he did very well and offered exactly what we need from a winger.

Maybe we need a plan B option, but I think its time to accept that Carroll's not going to reach that hypothetical potential.

Re: Liverpool v. Southampton: 15.00 Saturday 21st September 2013
I hope our scouts are already busy looking for a Central midfielder in January.
I really am pissed at this. We are the only team yet to score in second half of games. We looked spent and out of ideas out there, and we don't even have European footy to tire the squad. It's only September, why do we look burnt out ?
In all other 4 games, we had a spell of domination that we moved the ball quickly and used quick transitions keeping the ball.
Today? there was absolutely zero positive. NADA
Really hope we don't become the team to get Sunderland out of crisis next week.
