Apparently the fee can't be fully released, otherwise Ronaldo would be unhappy.

Not sure why Ronaldo has to be pampered. If he ever leaves, a replacement can be bought and we'll still compete for trophies.

He's not bigger than the club.

Yeh, if Ronaldo isn't happy with the fans, his wages and feels sad, he can leave.

It's not like he wins us CL after CL or anything. He can be replaced.

It really doesn't matter if he's scored 1000000 goals in 100000 games or whatever. It's about what the club achieves, not what Ronaldo achieves.

It is possible to win the CL without an elite player and with team effort. Bayern and Inter proved that in recent years.

In terms of replacements, well any striker that's hyped up by next year would probably do. Maybe Falcao if that rumour about him moving next year is true.

Anyway, where's the reliable sources claiming Ronaldo has spat his dummy out regarding the Bale fee? It seems some people are getting ahead of themselves.

Southampton had a 25% sell on fee for Bale when they sold him to Spurs. The sold the clause for £3m when they were skint and needed the cash.

On the other hand, great piece of business by Levy there. A logical choice but then again I believe that was when Bale looked a flop and Spurs were considering selling him for a relatively small amount of money.

Hindsight is wonderful, isn't it? People can mock Southampton, but at the time they were going through a difficult financial crisis and the money, as paltry as it seems to what they could have had now, was very necessary to them.

Remember also Spurs were close to buying Downing for Bale + £15m back in 2008, and were also trying to offload him to Nottingham Forest under Redknapp before an injury crisis seen him get an extended run on the team as a forward/winger.

I guess soton produced many good players in recent years...they should always have such release clause of 25% or they shoudl never sell their players for cheap OR 1m for every 20 goals scored by the player
