If you could change the outcome of a match in football history?
As a fan:
1. Atletico - Fulham Euro League final 2010.
2. Barcelona - Chelsea 2012 semi final 2nd leg.
3. Barcelona - Real Madrid Copa Del Rey final 2011: They were so close to a second triplete in 3 years.
As a neutral:
1. Czech Republic - Greece 04 Euro Semi: That czech team deserved the final, but because of the stupid Silver Goal they were denied the final.
2. Villarreal - Arsenal 2nd leg 06 CL Semi Final: Riquelme... What a story that would have been
3. Dortmund - Bayern CL final last year.
HM: Ghana-Uruguay WC10, France-Croatia WC98, Bayern-Valencia CL Final 2001.

Re: If you could change the outcome of a match in football history?
Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd 1995/96
We had a 12 point lead going into that game.... absolutely battered them but Schmeichel put on a godly performance and Cantona took like their only chance.
That win gave them the confidence they needed to go on a ridiculous run of hardly dropping a point for final 3 months.
We still should have won the league anyway but there is no way in hell we wouldn't have won it if we won that game.
And who knows where we would be today if we did.

Also some more
-1989 Liverpool 0-2 Arsenal, Arsenal scoring the 2nd goal in 92nd minute to snatch away the league title from our grasps
-08-09 Season, 1. Liverpool 0-0 Stoke City, Gerrard scored a legit freekick in the 1st minute that was disallowed. 2. Liverpool 1-1 Everton, Cahill scored one of the stupidest goals on the 89th minute or so to snatch an equillizer. Those 4 extra points could've won us the League

Re: If you could change the outcome of a match in football history?
Another one would be the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal during Sir Bobby's time when Bergkamp scored THAT goal.
Top of the table going into that game level on points with Man Yoo with two games in hand ( one of them being Arsenal game)
Not quite as a sure thing as the one in 96 but still it had a massive impact on the title.
We have a knack of things like this through out our history sadly

Both Stoke games home and away ended 0-0.
We would have won the league, Had we got those 4 points.

Mines not match related but
a) not match fixing because we allready had a world class squad.... even though i believe we were framed:evil:Â
b) paying a couple of extra millions instead of paying cash+salas to get ronaldo(salas, famously declined the move and the whole thing collapsed)

Germany - England in 1966 ^^
Not only would it be for greater justice, but it would benefit the English, too, as they would never have fallen under the Wembley curse never to win anything again

Re: If you could change the outcome of a match in football history?
The injustice that was the Man U vs. Porto game in 2004 would be one.
Another injustice was the 2005 CL final. Gerrard diving for a penalty and Dudek being off his line during the shoot out.
Spain/Italy vs. South Korea in 2002 WC.

Agreed we would have gone on to win 4 WCs and Germany would have the curse of never winning anything

Re: If you could change the outcome of a match in football history?
2005 CL semi-final: Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea. Luis Garcia's bloody ghost goal. Still hurts me. We had the squad and the momentum that season good enough to win the CL and I believe we would have gone on to beat Milan in the final had we gone through.
2008 CL final vs United. JT.
2009 CL semi-final 2nd leg vs Barca. Even though we ended up beating Barca in 2012 and winning the trophy, I still wanted that one. Despite Barca's dominance in every tournament that season, we were the only team that gave them a legitimate fight and we SHOULD have beaten them. I was disgusted at the way United got embarrassed in the final. Till this day I still think UEFA just didn't want 2 English teams to meet in the CL final 2 years in a row, and if we had reached the final there was NO WAY United was going to beat us for the 2nd straight year in a CL final. Our players had too much pride for that(and we were better). If only ONE of those penalties had been called, it would have been 2-0 and would have been the end for Barca. But no, Overbo just wasn't having that. I hope he never gets a goodnight sleep in his life anymore. I cried.
You don't know the pain of crying 2 straight years from CL exits.
England Vs Portugal 2006 WC: That was the last truly great England team we had. Loaded in every position with most of the players in their prime. We were supposed to be one of the favourties

Spain - South Korea 2002 : My 2nd favorite Spain team of all time (after 2008). We could have won the World Cup that year.
Madrid - Alcorcon / Madrid-Lyon 2010 - Wins in these would have saved Pelle's job and give him some time to buy the players he actually wanted, leading to a period of dominance for us
France - Italy 2006 - France should have won.

How exactly did UEFA *bleep* over Man Utd?
If UEFA didn't want Chelsea in the final in 2009, why then did the ref send off Abidal 30 mins from time in the 2nd leg when Barca were 1-0 down and going out? It simply makes no sense whatsoever, but is conveniently ignored.
As for the Man Utd vs. RM fixture; there can be little complaint about Nani's dismissal, it's all fair and well saying he had his eye on the ball but that's with the benefit of TV replays. Regardless, his foot was high and it was dangerous play, that's what the ref seen and was right to send the little bellend off. Roy Keane called it exactly what it was on ITV as did many professional and ex-pro referees.
This is the problem with the insular English football fans who convince themselves if they don't win or succeed in Europe it's because there's some UEFA/Platini conspiracy.
If you want an excuse them blame the tactics of the managers. Hiddink didn't capitalise on the man advantage he had in 2009 and Fergie made cock substitutions too late in the game to do anything.

Re: If you could change the outcome of a match in football history?
Lets not forget RVP was offside in Ramos own goal and Welbeck goal was never a corner. Oh and Rafael did a Suarez which should have been a straight red plus penalty. So, yeah conspiracy against the premier league indeed.
