He was calm and composed whenever he had the ball.
In terms of who'd win it, it'd be Messi since statistically he's the best player and that's what the award is about.

RonalDo'h has had an amazing 2013 thus far. Top scorer in CL too. Plus he has actually performed in all big games bar the semis (still scored). I personally think he should win it if only coz he's had a strong finish to the season

Lewandowski will win it if Dortmund win the champions league. Ribery or Robben will win it if Bayern win it...... just watch

thats how it would have been before it merged with FIFA world player of the year, now its just who is the best player regardless of performances.
so messi wil win it hands down.

Harmonica wrote:Wasn't talking one or two games. He's scored 5 goals in the league last two seasons. I see him every game running just like a headless chicken, chasing when you shouldn't chase, being where you shouldn't be, running into a corner with the ball just to make a back pass etc. Sanchez actually has quality, and he has the hunger, he just needs confidence to apply it. Haven't seen quality like that from Pedro for god how long.free_cat wrote:Harmonica wrote:This isn't track&field, this is football, where quality determines your effectiveness. Some may need to run to perform, some not so much. Look at Pedro running like headless chicken two games, and then rest the third one. For what? For nothing.
Pedro isn't a headless chicken and actually he didn't even run much vs. Bayern. Our tactical pressing was terrible.
This isn't track&Field but running helps, you can't score ore defend if you don't move from the midfield circle (exaggeration to make a point). I'm a fan of Messi and I agree he needs to keep some energy reserves for the attack, but a better balance like Guardiola's first years is desirable.
And again the problem isn't Messi, nor should he be criticized for something like defenders not actually being able to defend, at all.
Um what?
He's too lazy to start pressuring from the back, therefore giving the CB's ample time on the ball.
It lopsides the WHOLE system if messi can't press. that's how bad it is.

Pass completion isn't the end-all be-all though, and he also had 6/6 tackles and 4 interceptions (In 67 minutes)

Didnt say it was, just disagreed with the notion he was "always calm and composed on the ball"

That pass completion rate is absolute crap.
Xavi had 100% pass completion vs. PSG , yet he was dominated until Messi came on and bailed Barca out.
again, last night Xavi had a much higher pass completion rate than both Schwieni and Martinez (70% , 68%) ....don't make me laugh saying Xavi had a better game

Hopefully Cris will be ahead of Messi this year since he's been better.
Your actually serious right? No way in hell has CR7 been better than Messi
OT: Don't know what Schiewi has done to get a Top 3 spot. In honesty there really hasnt been a stand out from anyone. Muller, Ribery, Lewadon, GOATze, Messi will probably make the top 5.

Seeing as how Messi won it in 2010, it's clear that it is given to the best player in the world, not to the player with the best season in the world...so it will go to Messi again

Personally I don't see where the Schweinsteiger hype is coming from either. He put in a monster defensive performance - same as most of his team really - but he didn't really create any chances, most of which came (predictably) from the wings and dead ball situations. I'm sure he's been great vs other teams, but against Barca there were others in his own team that outshined him.
