they have the most informed editors when it comes to sports. but in this case the translation is just wrong. they actually said that some director or management dude at barca has the task to get hummels at the end of the season and hummel's father said that his son always has an eye open for such clubs but he won't necessarily switch. hummels himself said a few days ago that he wants dortmund to receive a chunk of money for him if he is to leave.

Noone said he cant defend or isnt a good defender, simply he doesnt fit and he doesnt.
Two great defenders dont always fit together if all the other factors dont work.
And I dont think anyone has to watch Dortmund week in, week out to see he is not very quick.
no but to make a fair assessment of a him you would have to watch him more for sure. when i read ...
...then his defensive capabilities are definitely understated. above all, he is a great defender, everything else are just accessories. he's not badstuber. The Franchise wrote:

and if supersonic speed is so vital then u might wanna get his backup santana instead.

Re: Bild: Hummels will sign for Barca
Yeah, but "defender first, footballer second" is purely the attitude Barca do not adopt, you dont have to take it literally as I think Hummels is more a player than defender.
All it means is if we are signing Hummels, it wouldnt be based on his defensive skills only or even mostly...half of the decision would be how good he is on the ball.
And that attitude I do not like.
Supersonic speed is not the be all and end all, but as I already said, two defenders who arent the best the bigger space isnt a good idea...there are many options out there.
Defending is all about space, each defender's ability to defend is dependant on how space you ask them to cover and which direction they have to cover it in.
There are various other defenders who can defend is bigger spaces and to me, thats just as important as fundemental defensive skills such as reading the offside line, timing of tackles and so on.

Perea is or was very fast...good for him though because if not for that he wouldnt be a footballer. Good at literally nothing else

Re: Bild: Hummels will sign for Barca
i see your argument but when looking at hummels pairing with subotic , who is kind of his goon and not faster than hummels, then covering space is one of their stronger areas. especially by the media hummels is hailed for his ability to clean up before shit hits the fan. of course bvb play fundamentally different from barca, but so does germany to a certain extend. with that being said, i don't see a huge drawback in terms of hummels' possible introduction at barca.
given pique's role at barca and standing as a defender in general, hummels would play the second fiddle. that surely seems odd to the occasional hummels spectator because he never does that and his individual skillset isn't that far off pique's. plus, cleaning up for someone faster then you doesn't necessarily make sense at first sight. nevertheless he is very complete in his ways as opposed to someone like badstuber and you rarely see him getting run over. actually never. his f*ckups are mainly uncharacteristic lapses of concentration/judgement where he isn't aggressive enough or overly "optimistic" (italy, shakthar) but not a case of "off he goes".
in any case, i could bring countless perspectives and possible situations into this discussion that could work in either favour. fact is, hummels is very complete, not slow at all and i could see him make his mark in any top team in the world. compatibility issues with him are very low, unless you really want a specialist/a runner who brings other problems to the table.

I highly doubt this. Hummels seems very happy at Dortmund, theyre competing for the CL, and honestly, Barcelona are going downhill and Dortmund uphill.

No surprise you are a Juventus fan. How exactly are Barcelona going downhill? They are the best team in the world, they have the best player in the world and the best youth system. Even without a manager at the pinnacle to lead them, they are still the best. What you have written shows lack of foresight, intelligence and most importantly, common sense.

Now that I have cleared this up, and have obviously intercepted your pathetic attaempt to troll, can you explain to me why Juventus have so many Scudetto's yet only have 2 European cups. I will tell you why, it is because you cannot bribr European refrees. There is no chance of a UEFApoli.

Lets see...Xavi, Puyol, Alves, and Villa are all past it and only gonna get worse. Iniesta is still comparitively young but cant keep this l
Barca will buy CB, Fabregas/Thiago will replace Xavi if not they will buy World class CM. Neymar/Bale or someone will replace Villa.Again Barcelona will never Go downhill as much as you think. They will remain competitive team at least better than Dortmund.

Lets see...Xavi, Puyol, Alves, and Villa are all past it and only gonna get worse. Once those key players go they dont have the youth to replace them, not even close. We all saw what happenned with no Xavi against Milan in the first leg for exanple. Busquets and pique get shown up as vulnerable, Messi and Iniesta cant do it all by themself, Barxelona become toothless and vulnerable defensively. Now imagine Xavi, Villa, Puyol, and Alves are all gone. Iniesta is getting older. Valdes is leaving. I dont even.know.how this is arguable.

Sure Xavi,Puyol are once in a generation player. But barca will always buy world class player to replace them unlike Dortmund .They always did.Of course La masia Can not produce Xavi messi type player every year.

It would be irresponsible to think that. The bigger issue, or talking point on this is whether or no the rest of the world will catch up to them. The funding that they have as well as the youth system in place will naturally make them formidable for years to come even if there is a down period. However if teams start to catch up to Barca in terms of producing unified football at all levels, it could be a different story. Howver, that is years away from happening.

Re: Bild: Hummels will sign for Barca
Clockwork, your post doesnt deserve a response. Juventus has nothing to do with this debate.
And thats all im trying to say. Villa, Alves, Puyol, Xavi, these were all important players in Barcelona recently. Theyre all going downhill fast and therefore Barxelona will go downhill as it is not easy to replace them. Simple as that.

Even in this case Barca, in my opinion Barca will be above Dortmund in five years time you can quote that right now.So if Hummels Join Barca it would not be Step down for him that for sure And that what juventus101 is suggesting here.

Re: Bild: Hummels will sign for Barca
Isn't this the same Barca who are like 15 points clear in La Liga?
Anyway back on topic, Hummels is clearly a very good player one of the best CBs around for me but....
I don't think he and Pique match up at all well and IMO it would be a lot wiser for Barca to go for a pacey, aggressive CB rather than one like Hummels.

Juventus' statement is correct minus the "Barca is going downhill" part.
But Barca arguably had the best team ever in the last few years, so it's hard to imagine that they wont go slightly down sooner or later. They will still be better than Dortmund though lol

I'd rather have Sakho or any Strong CB pairing Piqué . The defense really is suffering
and
I want dortmund to keep their best player ...
