Van Persie's dip in form
has scored 1, and I repeat ONE, goal in his last 8 games.
Whereas before today, Rooney had scored 7 in his last 8 games.
Was the wrong striker benched? Would have been interesting to see Rooney as CF
I am almost certain SAF will bench RVP for Chelsea game on sunday

If Van Persie finished some of his chances United would have gone through and Madrid fans complaining about the ref (Seriously a lot of calls did not go our way tonight)

meh he doesn't play next to Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Nani, Valencia and Kagawa. He's got playa Raheem and resilient Stewie Downing.

that stat mean nothing. Ronaldo take more shots than the entire universe, still doesn't mean he isn't a brilliant player and his goal-stats are overrated (Well only for Franchise )

Re: Van Persie's dip in form
I should've never brought up Suarez. I don't want this thread to get derailed. We need to talk about Varane keeping Van Big Game Flopsie quite for 180+ minutes of football.

Re: Van Persie's dip in form
Ronaldo takes shots he has no business taking in the first place. He probably could be more intelligent with his shot selection but this isn't baseball or basketball. Shot % is the most worthless stat in football imo
A goal in football is HUGE and you only need one shot to make it to change the game. If you know you're good enough to score from distance or a tough angle then go for it. So long as you make sure you don't take ALL the shots then it's fine.

It's actually sad, top CFs dont show up in big games nowadays. They are content dominating their league scrubs all season long but when arrives the CL, we dont see them anymore. It's true for Ibra, true for Gomez last year, true for RVP, Benzema, Higuain and so on.

Re: Van Persie's dip in form
Varane did well but let's not overrate him. He probably should have had a red in the first leg, he was at fault for the first goal in the game today, and he made a mistake where he was beaten by RVP who's shot was saved but was pushed back out to Welbeck who should have scored. He could have been responsible (at least partially) for two goals today.
Still did well and still a fantastic player and the kid has a bright future, and he had some good tackles today, but he rode his luck a bit and he was not mistake free over these two legs.
As for RVP. It happens to every striker. Thing is he still gets into good positions and he still creates chances and havoc with his movement- so I'm not worried about him. He'll be scoring goals every game once again soon enough.

Pipa was robbed of a goal tonight tbh (maybe even two). He deserved it and yet will not get the recognition he deserves

Re: Van Persie's dip in form
Far bigger choker than Ibra in the CL.If he was playing in any other league ,the scrutiny would've been on him .But i suppose he scores 'crucial' goals in the best league in the world that is the Donkee League so its convenient to brand him as a big game player.

What the hell has that got to do with anything?
Suarez scores goals because of the ridiculous amount of chances he either creates for himself or is created for him.
Because you score loads it doesn't make you a great finisher.... Lewandowski is a great example of that.
Van Persie is a much better finisher that isn't even up for debate.
Anyway he's always been a CL flop so this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone tbh i said last season when defending Ibra's record that RVP's is much worse yet no one mentions it.
How ever his recent record in PL is quite startling but i have noticed he has been dropping deep and creating for others more in recent weeks so that might explain why the likes of Rooney have scored more.

Re: Van Persie's dip in form
I did say I had a feeling about RVP to someone, before the tie even started I felt he had a little bit of flopperism about him. I dont know what it is.
I think to be totally fail though, he was starved of the ball for long period because of Utds game plan.
I would say though, people are foolishly saying why didnt Rooney play instead of Welbeck or Giggs..its actually RVP if anyone who Rooney should of played instead of if you want to go there.
But you cant blame Sir Alex, RVP is RVP.

RVP is RVP? What does that mean? He's someone who has only ever had one fantastic season.

How can we really say that RVP is the sole cause for United winning the PL when the entire team is playing better than last season?RealGunner wrote:You know he has won united the PL right ?

So this season he hasnt been fantastic? In fact, wasnt he always very good and the only thing stopping him before was injury?
What does it mean? It means RVP has been Man Utd best player...who doesnt play their very best player in the most important game?

Scorers of the most valuable goals
RVP's 19 goals have netted United 22 points- 32.4% of the teams total points.
That's insane. Without his goals, Man U would be much worse off.
