Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
No need to move the country, just allow a country that is capable of hosting this event in the summer.

You forget the about 2 months of preparation the NT coaches need before the tournament to form a proper team.Yohan Modric wrote:True, however the 2022 WC being in Qatar can't be changed now.
The WC isn't a long tournament. It only lasts around a month. So the season can either start a month early or end a month late. Add in maybe a 3/4 weeks rest. The previous season would probably end early too.
And you can't end a season early - you have 34 (BL) or 38 matchdays (other leagues with 20 teams), plus the cups etc.

Its not even that.. Actually prove that they have these existing air conditioned stadiums instead of just saying "Well, woops.. Guess its impossible even though that saying we could build these were the ENTIRE reason we won the world cup bid in the first place"

To be honest I love the fact that the WC is being played in the middle east
I was brought up there, and honestly the people are a football mad nation. I am honestly more pissed that Russia is hosting a world cup

btw Fifa also said Qatar hasn't asked for it to be moved to Winter, and Fifa will only move it if Qatar wants it, which currently they don't.... they have over 9 years left

Well they don't usually get 2 months I think. Season ends in May and WC starts in June.
It's possible to start maybe next season this July, instead of August, to finish a month early.

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
In Germany, the season ends in the first May week most of the time, so only the teams that compete in the DFB Pokal or possibly CL final send their players a week or two later (this actually hampered Jogi Löw's Euro 2012 preparation quite a bit as both the Dortmund and Bayern internationals were late for the NT training camp.) And the DFB Pokal starts before the Bundesliga, too. The scheduling issues would be a total chaos.Yohan Modric wrote:Well they don't usually get 2 months I think. CL final and cup finals could be moved to early May/late April.

Well, that would be just when the last matchdays of the league are played. I'm pretty sure no one would really be happy about that!

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
100% agree with this, if it is impossible to install those ACs then it is only fair to pick another country.VendettaRed07 wrote:THC 10 wrote:No need to move the country, just allow a country that is capable of hosting this event in the summer.

Anyway if I were a decision maker in FIFA I would play the same game Qatar played. Promise Qatar that the WC would be played in Qatar, allow Qatar to give those multi billion contracts to European companies to build stadiums, and whatever is needed to host the WC, and tell Qatar well ooops we can't play the WC in winter, sorry WC is going to some other country.

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
I'm so excited for this! I can see it now: we're at the halfway point of the EPL season, with Liverpool and ManU neck and neck for the title, when Raheem Sterling, Liverpool and England's star player in the prime of his career (28 years old) goes to the World Cup for his team, tears an ACL in the group stages, and is out for the next year. ManU cruises to the title while Liverpool drop 20 points the rest of the way and finish outside of the European spots.
It would be like the FA's wet dream, the clean-up from that collective orgasm would take MONTHS.

Speaking from first hand experience, i approve of this. It tends to get above 50+ C in the summer. Problem is it will get in the way of league schedules and whatnot. Thoughts?
How about they do the right thing and confirm it won't be in Qatar.

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
So the entire footballing world would now have to cater to a complete change of how the system has been set up for a very long time because the nation which won the bid (likely due to corruption) can't make good on the promise of artificial cooling clouds? FIFA knew about the conditions.
I'm not saying this WC will be a failure because obviously it has t happened, but that entire season of club football sure as well will be if they skew it like that.
They couldn't of just given it to the States in which the sport is growing at such a good pace. And in 9 years the timing would've been better since even more growth would've been allowed.

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
"I can tell you there is no working group within FIFA thinking and working on what it means to move the World Cup from summer to winter for the time being.
"The international calendar has been agreed for 2015-2018, meaning that we kept open all potential for period 2019 to 2022. We have time. We in FIFA have never said never, we have just said we are waiting for you [Qatar] to officially ask FIFA to look at the potential to move the World Cup from summer to winter - and that has not happened yet.
"Qatar is perfectly aware and 2014 is not the deadline - it can be even in 2015. The most important thing is to make sure work with all stakeholders and make sure there is full agreement with all parties, leagues, clubs, and we would have to find eight weeks in the mid-season to play the World Cup."

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
Now hold on, its unfair to say that US deserves it more. The middle east haven't gotten a WC in a long time. Sure there may be unrest around the area, and certain laws prohibit certain things, but come on guys. You never know with the WC, it might spark reform, it might even change the minds of the higher ups. Its not like the end of the world if Qatar hosts it, all i ask is just give them a chance. There's still 9 years for Qatar to improve

Well there is no unrest in places like Qatar & UAE. UAE is pretty open on all things and Qatar is trying to being UAE 2.0. In 9 years alot can happen.
China was award Olympics in 2001, and by 2008 Beijing and many others cities were fully transformed. I moved to Beijing in 2002, and by 2010 Beijing was completely different, alot less air pollution then currently, less sand storms, 10x transport system etc.
We should be more worried about Brazil and Russia for now, both aren't the most compelling of places either.... Brazil has a year to solve it's gang problems in big cities and Russia has issues with racism and other things.
