Ozil vs Rooney
I'm not sure whether this comparison should be about who's the better AM. However it doesn't really matter.
Anyway I prefer Ozil to Rooney at AM. Ozil has more technique, he's more creative and a better dribbler.
In terms of overall, it'd hard to compare them, since one's a midfielder, while the other is a forward.

As a attacking midfielder clearly Ozil, as a whole Rooney.

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
Please. Rooney was clearly doing a tactical job...nothing like his normal game. He took one for the good of the team, it was a selfless performance.
Players with his talent rarely do such a thing.

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
yep... Roo was sacrificed... a soldier for the reds yesterday...
Anyway to answer the thread, if I wanted a midfield facilitator, I'd go for Ozil.
If I wanted goal threat and stamina I'd go for Roo.
Overall, Roo is the better footballer for me mainly because Ozil seems to me to be restricted by his limitted stamina. Rarely he plays in the same pace for 90 minutes

At Am?
Flopzil for me, much more composed on the ball in the final third.

Ozil is easily one the top 3 AM in the world today whereas Rooney is just a makeshift AM tbh.

No. but the reason of his not so good performance wasn't just the position.overall he wasn't good last night and he must take blame for it.

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
Rooney was left forward as an attacking outlet. He let Coentrao run past him like he didn't exist. The goal resulted eventually from this. I think SAF assumed Ronaldo wouldn't track back either
In his role, he failed at simple things like passing to his next man or holding up the ball for a counter. Our midfield dispossessed him too easily. RVP did what Rooney was supposed to do in the second half, Wellback went into CF then. When Valencia came on, Coentrao went completely quiet. Rooney was still invisible.
In conclusion, I don't buy the " he sacrificed himself for the team" or " he was left alone" arguments. He had a shat day at everything, full stop.
The game doesn't tell anything about Özil vs. Rooney though. We should wait for the next game at OT.

His bad performance with the ball came for 3 reasons
1. Not playing his normal position
2. Getting a couple of touches every 10 minutes
3. Given a larger defensive responsibility than normal.
Those things combined put him in a position to play bad.
Could he of done better, yeah, but thats not the question. The question is not can he play better...we all know he can..the question is why.

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
He performed well vs. Barca in a even more starved role
He had a bad game. No doubt about it. No excuse really.

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
I dont think you guys realise the difference between excuse and reason
Unless its a Madrid player then of course you know.
More starved role vs Barca? Actually no he didnt...he wasnt out wide, he didnt have take care of any fullback or anything like that.
In that game all he had to do was get at Busquets. Which he actually failed to do funny enough.

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
Madrid fans acting like they didn't learn anything from the Bayern tie... Same old discussions, when someone (like me) said that Ribery> Ronaldo and Gomez> Benzema, Schweinsteiger>Alonso real fans begin ironic talks on me like i have no clue on what i'm saying, when they don't even watch regularly players like mentioned above... The same now with the likes of Rooney, Carrick, Evra etc.. When i said that 1 year ago Cavani>Higuain at least 10 real madrid fans jumped on me saying Cavani is not at the same level, lavezzi is the man at Napoli, and the future proved them wrong again..
Real Madrid is the first failed project of Mourinho, it's a team build for counter-attack who defends bad... in fact i wouldn't blame mourinho too much, you can't make a team when Real fans are so demanding, and the team is disunited, the opposite of Inter and Porto...

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
vladdy:rofl:
Before the game with Man United the same happened...
who said you are garbage? You're a top 10 team in Europe IMO, top 3 in Spain, quite an achievment ... I said before the game at that time, and i continue to believe that bayern are the better the team with better players, yet most of Real Madrid community thought otherwise and continued to make ridiculous player vs player comparisons, and couldn't accept other opinions ... And who's fault was that you got on penalties? you were playing home, and defended, not to mention a clear penalty for Germans should be given in the 1st half.chad4401 wrote:Hmmm bayern beat us 2-1 away and we beat them 2-1 at home and lost on pens yep we are garbage and bayern are a goat team smh really?

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
Didn't the whole Rooney vs Ozil start after cyber which is a Man United fan listed the best players from Madrid and United team into 1 team in the 4-2-3-1 set up where he put Rooney as AM in that other thread? MT seemed like just questioning whether Rooney really the best from both team for that role considering it's Ozil natural position, while Rooney's, he believed, playing SS in 4-4-1-1 set up. He actually made a good point that player comparison should take into account the role to play as well. Most Madrid fan who replied on that actually posted sound arguments and nothing ridiculous at all, nobody even saying Ozil is outright better than Rooney, just pretty much that as AM in 4-2-3-1 set up Ozil probably has a more suitable skill set and there's another good point on taking into account how well they're used by respected team to judge both players. But some kept insisting that it's easy peasy comparing these 2, that Rooney is just very very clearly a better player, doesn't matter AM or SS, used better or not, basically no argument needed, it's just that clear, period. MT probably still not convinced and hence why probably he ended up creating this thread. Don’t think that has anything to do much with the head to head Man United - Real Madrid and the claim of which team is better.
On topic, don't disagree with what has been said here. Rooney is a more complete attacker, but Ozil is a much better playmaker/creator.

Re: Ozil vs Rooney
Yeh, it's hard to make comparisons between players who have different roles. If Rooney's better than Ozil overall because he offers more, than I guess a player like Vidal must be better than Xavi because he offers more?

No.
Rooney is better because he is a better player and impacts more games, more often.
Vidal does not do that to the level of Xavi, so no.
