Is sitting back with a solid defense and counter attacking the most effective way to play?
Celtic/Juve, Valencia/PSG and now Real Madrid/Man Utd.

It's the easiest way to get a result if you are limited.

No, possession whoring is by far the most effective game plan. The opposing team cannot hurt you without the ball.

No... Madrid just sucks when having the ball most of the time.

And the team with the ball cannot hurt you if your defense is solid.

I have always been of that opinion.
If one player loses concentration for 1 second/makes a mistake, he will have 9 teammates just around him to help him out and once they go on the counter they will have alot of space to utilize..

You need to stop with this Barca obsession because normally a lot of teams that play away in the first leg tend to employ conservative tactics.

Man Utd barely countered. When they got chances they were not in this way.
And no. You are relying on the opponent...that is never the best way long term.

Barca obsession? He was asking if the style that is the total opposite of Barca's style is the most effective way. So how is that being obsessed with Barca?

No true.
No matter how solid you are, the other team will create a chance. Go look it up.
Even the most park the bus performances, chances were created. All those teams could do is restrict the chances and hope they dont go in.

Chances are created, however they're either just simple shots which the GK can save or from far out. It's hard creating a good shooting chance against a team that defends really well.

Spain tactics are more solid imo. If you have so much possession it limits the chances you concede to your opponent.
Even if you are solid and sit back you can concede from set pieces, from deflections etc.

I might agree to some exact with that logic BUT to be able to make possession whoring into an effective game plan you need quality player otherwise the possession just become useless. Wasn't that Swansea's problem last season?

Nope. As I said, go look it up, all those games...great chances.
Name a game, I will tell you a great chance someone should of scored.

Its the easiest way to try be solid as you can do it with average players. Ala Celtic V Barca. But it is not the best. With super talented technical players possession is more solid.

Yeh they could have scored, but usually the team who sits back gets a good result.

Shit talk. Every game round in every league, smaller teams tend to sit back and try defend against the stronger teams. Usually they lose.

Re: Is sitting back with a solid defense and counter attacking the most effective way to play?
Nope, usually they dont.
12, 13 , 14 La Liga teams sit back most often vs us, they usually dont get the result.
Barca been to 2 CLfinals in the space of 4 years, got better results more often than not.
People only remember the other results because they are rare.

I'm talking more about the big games, where there's better teams.

And your still wrong.
Barca, 2 finals in 4 years..won many more big games than they lost along the way.
Dont think so short term.
