Re: Brazil vs England
Definitely. Welbeck looked dreadful on the left. Sturridge could have done a lot of damage with the service he got. Also I think Baines should start over Ashley Cole and that could be a very good team in a years time.Messiah "Aggerswagger" wrote:Imagine Sturridge replacing Welbeck in that line up and another pair of Cbs instead of those scrubs and England would have a really balanced team.

I'm just not naive to think anything has changed because we won a friendly.
Call me when we actually do something in a major tournament.
yet you wank yourself over France
the last time France weren't EMBARRESSED in a tournament was 2006, and before that 2000.
Well, making the quarters is embarrassing for France NT since we have higher ambitions. Realize that making elimination round for England NT is considered an achievement... just different expectations lol.

Just asking, but what sort of performance at say the next world cup would get you hyped? Would they have to win it?Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:RealGunner wrote:Haven't read the last 8 pages since i just got in. Why the hate towards mole lol ?
Because i said we are average before the game and won't do nothing long term.....
Not my fault i'm the only one who isn't falling for the hype and when we get to a major tournament will be expecting us to flop.
Its called being a realist, no hate just being realistic.

Re: Brazil vs England
I'll answer for Mole... Friendlies mean little. This type of International week especially. Most players played on Sat/Sunday for club, rested on Monday, had one training on Tuesday and then played today. Just doesn't say much.
Also, intensity of official competition is entirely different.
I look for individual performances in Friendly games and overall style. Final result means very little.
WC qualifying games should be the real indicator. England doing ok in Euro should be encouraging as well.
Problem with England currently is that there's only one difference maker: Rooney. To really contend, you need more than that.

Re: Brazil vs England
Anything Quarter finals and beyond while showing an improvement in style of play from the previous major tournament would please me.
I'm just not ready to get all that excited, too many times i have been burned by this national team and too many times players have been over-hyped and not delivered.
Seen it all before with England and today shows nothing i haven't seen before.
Sorry if i sound very dejected but i'm not prepared to get excited until i see the things i mentioned.

If the opponent goes past a full back more than twice, immediate action should be taken.
Walcott loves Barca full backs.

Re: Brazil vs England
There's an already an improvement in the style of play since the Euro's. At the Euro's, we just lined-up in a rigid 4-4-2 and tried to make do with a squad of players where barely anyone was in decent form. It wasn't pretty at all, but we just about achieved what we expected - might have even gone further with a bit of luck.
Since then, we've changed to a 4-2-3-1 and have started using a few new, younger players and are trying to use a more progressive style. It hasn't been ten men behind the ball and hopeless balls forward to a Carroll, Crouch or Heskey.
I know we're just catching up to everyone else, but isn't this a positive thing? How many years have we been asking for the ball to be played on the deck; to move away from the kick and rush and target man? I don't know if Hodgson will continue with this style but I hope he does. It makes watching England a less tiring task.
On the game itself, I don't really care if it was just a friendly. I'm happy we beat a good team and that there are signs of progression since the Euro's, which was my expectations for this team.

This has to be the worst era in Brazils history. They made England look like Spain sometimes, and that in itself is an accomplishment

Re: Brazil vs England
I wouldn't say Adriano got destroyed at all, there was just one period in the game where Walcott used pure pace to get past him, can't do much against raw pace if you're high up the pitch.
That being said England looked much better than they normally do and got a deserved win. However, this translates into NOTHING because most international teams in friendlies are a completely different beast to the way they perform when it matters.
Italy are pretty poor in frendlies yet they completely turn it around when it comes to the business end. Unfortunately for England it's the complete opposite.

Re: Brazil vs England
Don't understand how this game "doesn't matter"
First win over Brazil for 20+ years. That alone is a monumental accomplishment for Hodgson. Brazil came into the game with a point to prove, and swiftly had that point shoved up their booty holes. England were being treated like the proverbial lambs to the slaughter. Ray Winstone's floating head came on my TV during half time and told me England were 9/1 to win 2-1
To say this game didn't matter is just plain wrong

Re: Brazil vs England
I said it b4 and will say it again, Neymar is Robinho V2.
Until he stops the " I am a Hollywood star, and Europe has to wait to see my show" attitude, he is no more than an entertainer.
I think he is not ready for top level football, and on the contrary of public believe I believe it is too LATE for him to come to Europe, he should have arrived before all this hype, at a stage where he would have accepted a small role in a top team and ready to learn, now he thinks he is a super star.......

I don't think it's too late for him but I think you're spot on with the Robinho comparison. I've been saying it too. A bunch of flashy skills in the spacious Brazilian league mean jack sh*t. He has time on his side but people are putting him about 80 places too high in their own personal 'Top forwards' list.
He shouldn't ever be compared to top European players until he proves himself.

Man I think it is late, do you see him accepting a bench role at any European club, and being integrated gradually to any system, to be criticized, to be subbed on a bad day, etc....TomJuve wrote:I don't think it's too late for him but I think you're spot on with the Robinho comparison. Re: Brazil vs England
You might be right but I reckon his name will get him a starting spot at which ever club buy him . At least for a little while. Then it's make or break. The thing is no matter where he goes he'll have enough wondergoal youtube moments to convince idiots that he's world class. But I can see him being very unreliable and not much use in a scrappy match against a well drilled physical side.
Edit: For me there's 3 Brazilian attacking players I would take over Neymar if I was managing a sugar daddy club. Oscar, Pato and Hulk.
Yes different positions but I rate them all higher as far as attackers go.
