Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was sending a message to the board with his dumping of Iker Casillas on Saturday, it is claimed.

Mourinho replaced the club captain with Antonio Adan for the defeat to Malaga.

Marca says Mourinho is convinced Real are paying for not backing him in the summer market and he wanted to send a message to president Florentino Perez with the controversial selection.

The coach is still smarting over Real's refusal to compete with PSG for Lucas Moura and failure to sign an experience keeper to challenge Casillas.

Sources close to the board insist there's no panic from Perez. While upset with the defeat, Real directors will not over-reach and begin interfering in Mourinho's selection policy, no matter how baffling it becomes.

The club can't move forward when some players appear bigger than the manager, the league season is almost as good as over and our targets have to be readjusted, winning the next derby and clasico and finishing 2nd should be our priority now.

Being out of the race should allow Mourinho more room to experiment with the fringe players, I hope Morata, Alex, Jose and Jese Rodriguez would be given more exposure. Varane should be starting every league match from now onwards, he's been better than both Pepe and Ramos this season.

In January we need to buy a new right back or better still buy back Carvajal, and possibly a new keeper, who can put pressure on Casillas and possibly get him back to the form which made many suggest he'd be the first keeper to win the Ballon D'Or.

Mourinho should not and would not be afraid to bench any player who doesn't toe in line with his direction, Madrid needs a strong leader to manage the big egos in the club (Ramos, Ronaldo, Casillas), Madrid needs Mourinho.
