Re: Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich
Has Sagna ever been good going forward? He's like Arbeloa but not as good at defending.
Lahm was brilliant.

Quite frankly I can't blame Sagna of all people for this loss.
Attacking fullbacks help too much no doubt but it wouldn't make the difference tonight... I feel it would've actually made it worse for us.
Tbf i'm making a sweeping statement about fullbacks....
I don't blame Sagna btw i thought he was one of Arsenal's better players and he's still one of the best defensively.
But having 2 fullbacks who can't offer anything offensively really limits a team as you can't really use the width of the pitch unless you have elite wingers of course which sadly you don't either.

Wilshere is too one dimensional IMO,his only trick is to get the ball and run forward trying to run past players. To be named alongside the best midfielders in the world he needs to develop a better passing range, learn how dictate the tempo of a game, better decision making and more end product.

Tbf even if Sagna attacked nothing would have happened....
Also i'm not saying be gung ho, but at least provide something offensively.
Look at all the best teams in the world they all have wonderful offensive fullbacks, some can defend too but its not necessary.
When your midfield is struggling to break down then the fullbacks have to help with some width and attacking play.
As for Ribery.... he was used as a decoy he hardly went near Sagna so i don't really consider Sagna " dealt with him " he never had to deal with him because Ribery was moving all across the front line to create space for Muller and Kroos and in some cases Schweignsteiger.
Basically with most teams using 1 striker these days it is a huge waste having 4 defenders.
Neither Vermealen and Sagna offered anything offensively compare that to Lahm and Alaba and you see why Bayern are a top 2 team and Arsenal are going out.
Couldn't agree more with this, you are completely right.

I agree, to be fair in this case Wenger didn't have better options with Monreal and Gibbs out. Gibbs is attacking minded, Monreal not so much but still overlaps and does much better in attack than Vermaelen (who's not even a LB)

That is more to due with his role in the team....
He has fantastic passing range and he can dictate the tempo
But Arsenal use Cazorla, and Arteta for that while Wilshere is asked to drive the team forward and open teams up.
I have seen him in different roles and he uses his skill sets based on what the team asks of him.

Re: Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich
Did anyone noticed Wenger crying during the match...?even as a Bayern fan that broke my heart.
Nice win for us, but not the best I have seen from Bayern, really upset about that non existence corner that eventually led to goal, I'm also upset about Gomez clear cut miss and Kroos not making killer pass for Robben when he had a glorious chance to be one on one with the keeper.
it's been ages since any team had more ball possession than us and I hope that doesn't repeat it's self.

Re: Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich
Monreal was cup-tied and Gibbs is injured, while Jenkinson can get forward but there was no way we were going to not play Sagna. We do have offensive ones though, it's just that this game came at the wrong time for us to use them.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:That isn't the point i'm making though, offensive fullbacks who make the difference are really the difference between a good team and a great team.
People can talk about solid defense bla bla bla but most teams who win the CL have at least one fullback who makes the difference offensively.
Arsenal sadly have 0, if you think this wasn't major difference tonight then you are quite naive.

Arbeloa is a champion. What has Sagna ever achieved in his career?

He'll have nothing to show for it by the time his career is over at this rate.
Arbeloa has played his heart out for top teams and is fortunate to have started for two champion teams. You could argue they could have won without him and it would be hard to disagree but it's not like he's cost his teams when the chips were down. He's carried his own weight.

Who are you quoting? Arbeloa made a great career choice when he moved to a bigger/better team on the up. He's held his own and is a champion. You're going to hold that against him?

No, but I'll certainly hold the duplicity/hypocrisy against Madrid posters.

Me? I've been nothing but a supporter for Arbeloa. Show me my posts where I've called him average and then we'll talk about it. Not sure what your problem is. All I did was say Arbeloa is a champ and Sagna isn't, now you're on some campaign against hypocrisy of Madrid fans.
