Re: Joe Cole's Salary Breakdown
Poor mans Winston Bogarde
Bogarde responded, 'This world is about money, so when you are offered those millions you take them. Few people will ever earn so many. I am one of the few fortunates who do. I may be one of the worst buys in the history of the Premiership but I don't care.'

Re: Joe Cole's Salary Breakdown
I remember i was so happy when we singed him. In his secong game for us he delivered a world class performance against Rabotnicki. That was the last I saw of the world class JC. I hope someone just takes him from us already, i cant stand to his far another 2 years.

Re: Joe Cole's Salary Breakdown
If its true that he smokes that amount of cigarettes a day then I have nothing more then pure contempt for this impish little moocher.
I too was excited for his arrival yet Carlo Ancelotti was right on how he is all talent and ability but no footballing brain. I have come to defend him for years on end on his salary and signing yet I can't find anything any more to defend about him.
If he was classy like Fernando Redondo for Milan he would have reduced his salary instead of continually being the useless lump of organism that he is now.
Just goes to show what a joke Roy Hodgson is with what is probably his 122th transfer blunder given his lack of foresight in anything football.

Re: Joe Cole's Salary Breakdown
I don't think there's anything weird about his salary. Why?
High salaries are often the price you pay for free signings. Many clubs are interested because there's no transfer fee, so have to pump up the wages you offer to get the player.
He was coming from Chelsea, so he surely was already on high wages. Players current wages are always a bargaining chip when negotiating contract with a new club: Player is out of order to ask for a huge instant raise and club is put of order offering significantly less than what the guy's making right then. You hear it all the time in transfer news, "we were interested in the player but his wages put us off."
He was 28 when signed for Liverpool and still considered a good player. Obviously he has flopped, but the expectations where there and that's what you pay for.
Cole was signed during a time when LFC didn't really have any money to spend, so free transfers were what Hodgson & co were somewhat forced to look for.
A big flop, yes, an idiotic transfer, not really when you consider everything.

Glad I'm not the only one that caught that.RedOranje wrote:Henderson - 70k
Where in the hell did you get that list?
He turns 31 in 2 days... We've had him for two full seasons before this one. That mean's he was 28 at the start of 2010-2011. That should be the prime of a footballer's career. If anything, he showed great potential early on and peaked early. TBH, I NEVER understood this signing... Why sign Cole when we had Gerrard? Why not buy a backup striker (at the time we had Torres, Kuyt who played RAM, and Ngog) or someone to fix our horrible width problem (we did buy Jovanovic, but he turned out to be... well, he was Jovanovic.)RealGunner wrote:joe cole in his prime was an unbelievable player tbf.

Re: Joe Cole's Salary Breakdown
I'm certain he meant there was no point in signing him considering he wanted to play in the centre role or "in the hole" in which was Gerrard's position.

They may be different players, but they occupied the same CAM slot in Woy's 4-4-1-1...
