Don't think it's down to age Emaharg.

Players like Dani Alves,Capdevilla(a few years back),Zanetti,Maldini,Cole even Neville were decent or in some cases great in attack, yet still proved defensively capable when called upon in their 30's.

Now I'm not comparing Fish 'n' Chips (that's his new nickname) to legends of the game, but without doubt, he's just shat. No excuses. And this guy used to play for Brazil. Laughing

Santos was alone last night, Poldi didn't backtrack and Coquelin barely had time to bail him out the few times he did. He was utter shite especially with his gung ho tackle on Farfan that failed but to scapegoat him for the entire match which we looked like toothless puppies is too much.

I know, but he can't be blamed for Poldi's inability to give a shit about his defensive duties or our awful attack. Santos was never good enough to start in our XI but that was known since day one. We need players who aren't only good enough for the bench but good enough to compete with our starters.

Try out Verm at left back for the time being. He's going forward at pretty much any chance anyway.

may be a good decision atm.. Vermelen is nowhere near his form this season...
But Wenger wont do that.. Santos is in the team as a specialist LB (whether he is able or not is another matter).. Gibbs is injured.. so i cant see Wenger benching him and giving chance to another player when he is fit to play..
i feel the problem is not only with Santos but with the tactics.. we dont have a true LW/LM.. instead Gibbs frequently makes up for it.. most of our attack comes from left wing.. Gibbs could manage it with his pace and stamina.. he gets injured.. So we call Santos and asks him to do the same.. that is too much.. we must change the tactics.. it would have been much better if he was asked to stay back and concentrate on defending.. Santos is not that bad.. We have seen that last season..

Well he did secure 3rd spot for us with that strike against West Brom, but we need to move on from last season.

Things have changed, and while Santos remains a character I like, his game time needs to be reduced for the good of the team. eco smile
