Re: Is Copa America a serious competetion??
Japan is a quality team, and USA is decent. Mexico can suck it if they place that shitty Gold Cup before La Copa. We can't stop inviting because we have limited teams. How the hell do you run a tournament with 8 teams? There would be no group stage and that's just too many changes or something so traditional.
As far as I'm concerned: average team quality of La Copa > average team quality of Eurocup. Sure, Europe has more "big" teams, but not by that much. Germany, Italy and currently Spain. The rest are more or less equal to American teams.

Did you see Ecuador vs Paraguay or just judging matches by the scorelines?

Re: Is Copa America a serious competetion??
as i said, brazil is not taking this competetion seriously. They are using a experiment team for the 2014 WC.Trying to analyze and fix the missing puzzles.will they do it if they were in a world cup? will spain field an experiment team in euro? answer is simply NO.
Re: Is Copa America a serious competetion??
preperation for this copa from both argies and brasil sides speaks about its relevance..

Every South American takes this competition seriously. Inept choices by the management are another matter.

Your simply retarded.
Have you ever watched the Copa America besides maybe one or two games? Its only inferior to the Eurocup and obviously Mexico wont place as much importance, they want to get to the confederations cup meaning they have to place much more importance on the Goldcup

Re: Is Copa America a serious competetion??
Honest question?
Considering the there are only 10 countries in South America and only Mexico and USA are competitive in NA why not emerge these 2 competitions? Surely the quality of the competition as well as revenue stream will be far better?
Aisa Cup quality and markatability has increased to large extent every since the inclusion of Australia. So why not emerge these two (Gold cup and Copa America) into a single competition?

Re: Is Copa America a serious competetion??
I think that this has been proposed, and even looked into, merging south america in with north and central, but it has never really gone past that. I read something on the topic a while ago. But on topic, how could this cup not be a serious competition, if, although there is a bit of a shortage of teams, it includes two massive world powers in Argentina and Brazil, and most of the teams are somewhat even in overall skill (Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, even Colombia ATM could be a danger to any team). So it's not as uneven as say the gold cup, although the past few finals for the Copa America haven't reflected this. But, the CA pertains to Argentina and Brazil, and many refer to the Euro as the World Cup without those two. So I don't see how their respective INTL competition isn't "serious". And try to ask that question in South America. I was in Colombia in 2001 when we won it, and say what you will about that tournament, the CA is definitely serious!BeautifulGame wrote:Honest question?

Re: Is Copa America a serious competetion??
Then why don't u just not watch the cup, since you seem to be the only person I've ever encountered with this opinion? You'd make it so much easier for u this way.Adit wrote:you proved my point actually, having only 10 teams is a big reason why copa isnt regarded as a big tourney,at least in my books. There isnt enough teams to start a proper competetion.Maurotaurox wrote:Adit wrote:copa america is a success only in terms of business strategy then.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Adit wrote:its not about soth america vs europe guys, its about copa america, the relevence of that trophy is far inferior to euro cup and african nations cup.
Those tournaments have some basic strategy to start with, while copa is like "do you wanna play,?" No. "oh come on,just send some random players here,no body cares" Ok then.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Bro, it's a business strategy. By inviting the likes of Japan and Mexico the Copa stands to make more money because it now has an opening in the Asian and North American markets. Additionally, these countries that are considered 'giants in their own region' get a chance to weigh themselves vs. real competition. Everybody wins.
I have yet to receive a explanation for why not having a qualifier isnt a step down for copa?
Like I said, they cannot have qualifiers because they have a limited amount of teams. If they had qualifiers only like 5 teams would enter and it would not be a very entertaining cup.

Re: Is Copa America a serious competetion??
Adit, the only reason why the Euros are so prestigious is because it has roughly four/ five/ six top top teams that could all vie for the title. They are: Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, England and Spain (although, it must be noted that these countries are rarely at their best at the same time).
Teams like San Marino, Monaco, Estonia etc. don't bring the quality of the Euros up. Instead, they only make the route to qualifying/ winning the cup that much longer. Although it's good to have these teams compete in it, as it will make the natives of these countries very proud and patriotic, they are not the reason why neutrals from around the world value the Euros so highly.
Now in South America, there are also roughly four/ five/ six top teams that compete in the CA. Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile etc.... you know the ones. They don't have many weak footballing nations in the continent to make the competition more "competitive" or "longer". Instead, the competition is tough from the very first match.
The quality of the C.A. should not be underestimated. After all, the winner of this tournament is definitely in the top 2 nations in the world.

Yes kevacious, and in South America, the leagues may not be as strong as European leagues but the fan support is as strong as ever. I know what u mean about the smaller teams in the Euros, but I appreciate how you don't see the lack of teams in the Copa America as a reason to question it's importance, even though it is the oldest International football competition in existence. The lack of teams isn't news either, for adit, I'm pretty sure that's been widely known for a while.
