Should we Sell Song ?
Alex Song to Barcelona?
What does everyone think about the rumours about Alex Song going to Barcelona? Who should replace him? And how much should we ask for him?

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
I don't think it'll happen.
If Song has to go it's because Wenger wants him out. We're not forced to sell. A good replacement would be Sahin on loan + a defensive midfielder in which I would like to trust Wenger.
We should ask for 20+million pounds minimum.

I agree that I don't think that it will happen neither do I want it to happen, and from Song's interviews he seems to really love the club and doesn't seem to ever want to leave.

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
Song will not leave and i don't think Barca need Song, they need Keita's replacement and Song isn't that. Song plays positions where they are already stacked with WC players

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
Will be really pissed if he does end up leaving
We taken a nice few steps forwards with the signings, but then decided to shoot ourselves in the foot, then slam the wound with a hammer.
Or is Wenger worried we will make it too tough for the opposition?

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
I have a feeling that he's going to leave. I don't know why, and the move would make little sense for all involved, but, well, when has that stopped footballers from moving clubs?

Yea dosent make any sense. Unless his a signing of depth, in which case barcelona dosent really lack. Thiago is more fit to the system than Song atm.

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
You guys keep forgetting the performances he put as a DM in his breakthrough season.
You guys keep forgetting the way he plays when there are creative players infront of him and the way he plays when there is a lack of creative spark upfront.
I really think losing Song is worse than RVP. Anyway, with the whole RVP thing, the last thing i wanted to hear is someone like Song leaving....
Hope this all isnt true, we will seriously be going a step back if we sell him.

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
People need to stop referring to Song as a DM
That's like referring to Cronaldo or Messi as wingers....they're just not

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
Word Lex.
And I totally disagree with Song being more valuable than van Persie, even with the attacking signings we've made this year. VP's heavily involved in almost all of our attacking build up, and is the usually the man to finish it as well.
I've said it before, but we don't need Song and his adventurous forward runs this year. All he has to do is sit back, position himself, and shield. I'm not too convinced he does these things too well, but hopefully he'll actually play like a true DM this year (if he stays).

Re: Alex Song to Barcelona?
Pretty good article. I liked the point about out-right defensive midfielders steadily going out of fashion. If you go through the top clubs in Europe right now, none of them have what you would call a pure destroyer who holds the midfield. Rather, what they do have are dynamic, physical midfielders who can cover the ground and hassle opponents or a very tactically astute midfielder who knows how to hold his position.
Barcelona, for example, have the latter in Busquets. Strong and good in the tackle, but in no way a destroyer. Real Madrid have the former in Khedira; it's Alonso who does the holding role.
In the Premier League, City use Barry as their holding player while Yaya Toure provides the dynamism. United use two tactically astute midfielders. Chelsea have Mikel, who's very similar to Busquets.
You can see where I'm going with this. Traditionally, defensive midfielders are powerful players who can destroy but holding the midfield is more about positioning yourself correctly and staying disciplined than throwing your weight around.
That's why, if Song leaves, we don't necessarily have to replace him with a pure destroyer type player like everyone wants. Rather, we would just need someone who either has the discipline and tactical know-how to play the role or a strong, dynamic player.
