Re: Is it worth it?
i don't care if he wants to leave, even if it's for trophy or money. If you think your club isn't good enough for you, i will happily show you the door.
But the problem i have with him is going public about Arsenal not being good enough for him therefore putting us in a position where we could get cornered by both him and the other clubs.
At least Nasri had the decency/respect to keep playing and keeping his mouth shut until Arsenal felt the deal was good

That is what bothers me the most here...
Arsenal is taking an admirable route with this whole mess that we call football, and I have great respect towards the club, but the players that they court to join their ranks are in no different situations at their own respective clubs than van Persie and Fabregas are and were to Arsenal themselves.
this is my point.. people are elevating this transfer as if its a complete schock that some one would ever trade up, when every single player outside of the arsenal academy has traded up to get to arsenal.
and people stop with the rvp captain claim, its bs first you vilify him call him childish and then you say oh hes club captain (hes been a stand in captain for one year ffs its nothing like cesc or henry) he will never compare as a club icon with the likes of henry, cesc, or bergkamp

He wants to leave : OK but Wehave to sell him To Juve or any other club . what is that , i know city pay well but who cares about him wanting to go there . We are going to strenghen an opponent. After Adebayor, kolo, clichy,Nasri, it's enough
to sell him is not that a problem but sell him to man city IS . i have nothing against city but this is getting ridiculous,

Wenger needs to stop making players captains so they won't leave. It clearly doesn't work.

Re: Is it worth it?
I think RVP thinks Arsenal need to be linked to players that are linked to Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid etc. The elite players. Although Podolski and Giroud are good, they aren't elite.

Do you say the same about players that join Arsenal? That's such a one-sided view, mate.

Re: Is it worth it?
Gabriel Batistuta. Great, great striker. Maradona called him "the greatest striker I have ever seen play". He was called Batigol for a reason. He was a huge star at Fiorentina like RvP is at Arsenal(that lone star status). I'm sure I don't need to go on rambling about his status to you. You already know.Vibe wrote:The lack of loyalty,morale,pride...Can't believe people don't understand that and justify his actions.
World going down the sh*thole.
Anyway, he had won just one Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa with Fiorentina. Couldn't win anything else. Such a great striker. He finally left at age 31 to join Roma and he ended up winning Seria A with Roma. Imagine if a player like that had gone down in history with just one Coppa Italia to his name(Supercoppa is irrelivant imo), especially after coming short several times with Argentina(same with RvP and Netherlands).
RvP is 29. Do you see Arsenal winning the league next season? Or the one after? How about an FA Cup? 7 straight years with nothing. Who says it won't extend to 10, 12 years? And its nothing against Arsenal btw, I'm just seeing things from RvP's perspective.
Fiorentina fans still idolize Batistuta. If Arsenal fans choose to label RvP a traitor(especially after their idol Henry left for Barca) it would be quite unfair and selfish. Players like RvP deserve to win something.
edit: Didn't Henry leave at the same age?

Re: Is it worth it?
Did he mention that he was trying to go to City or United? Why do you say it like he has come out and publicly said that?Vibe wrote:vanDEEZ wrote:Vibe wrote:vanDEEZ wrote:goonbrain wrote:Leaving for trophies is as bad/good/equal as leaving for money, imo...both are driven by greed. greed? its driven by ambition.. why do you think podolski joined arsenal? out of the goodness of his little heart or because hes getting 10x more exposure and a much bigger chance at a trophy than with koln?
so if youre going to scold players for leaving clubs youre going to have to realize players do this all the time - thats the point of the transfer window.
You can't be serious about comparing Podolski leaving a relegated Bundesliga side with Van Persie leaving Arsenal...
isnt it even more relevant then? podolski left his HOME TOWN club to be relegated for arsenal.
the point which i see you failed to understand is that if you are going to scold rvp for leaving arsenal for trophies than you might as well have a thread about every transfer of all time and berate them for leaving.
everyone is putting this transfer up on a pedistal as if it were different than any other player leaving his club for a better chance at winning trophies.
Not every player is a club captain trying to force a move to the rival club next door.
These things are supposed to mean something...
Fabregas said he wanted to go to Barcelona SEVERAL TIMES and whinged and cried like a baby until he was sold..........yet somehow he's still an idol

Re: Is it worth it?
I side with Lex and Vibe on what I think is the "right" thing to do, however I do believe that there is a limit to my right to dogmatically establish this as appropriate behaviour. I don't watch football to observe ethical business administration. If I did I essentially couldn't follow football.
In the end, sport is a business and this is an occupation for these players, however it's also no ordinary job. The level of emotional investment in this sport is incredible and the players I truly love and respect are those who respond to this in a meaningful manner through their conduct. I don't begrudge the players who treat it as a pay check and nothing more, who try to ride their way to glory or who act selfishly in their pursuit of victory. At the end of the day, they have lives and importantly families to take care of and I respect that they have to put them first. Decisions made for family are in truth however, very, very rare.
Don't tell me that someone had a last chance to earn money which they needed to take. Most of these players see more money in a year than most see in their entire lives, slaving away for their loved ones. These players made their choice, good for them. We all love to see our heroes win, we all love to see them happy. It doesn't mean that we have to think that whatever they've done can ever be classified as necessary. They do what they want, not what they have to. They are also however well within their rights to tell me to shut the hell up and stop judging them when I step out of line and call them glory hunters.

lol @ these white knights
why did van persie leave feyenoord for arsenal then? shouldn't he be loyal to the club that taught him how to play football?
get that stick out of your asses please, nothing wrong with it if a player wants to finish his career with something other than an fa cup in his trophy case... this is the exact same situation villa was in at valencia and noone blamed him for leaving

Re: Is it worth it?
How is that even comparable? When you leave Feyenoord for Arsenal you really do leave for the good things, like ambition and hunger. And the main difference - the club wants to sell you cause that is the role of smaller league teams, produce talent > make profit > start another cycle of the same. There is nothing wrong with making a step forward in your career. But this is a different case...
Here we are talking about the club captain,a fan favorite forcing his way out to the much hated rival for a bit more money. And he's not leaving Sunderland,he's leaving Arsenal FFS.A historically great club and still a top club...He's leaving that for a team with nothing more than money and a slightly better chance of a trophy.Absolute disgrace...

Re: Is it worth it?
Arsenal stuck with RVP when no one wanted to touch him with a ten foot pole because of his injuries. RVP leaving for more money is perfectly understandable but you have to be uber cynic (like che lololol) to think that gunners shouldn't think less of Van Persie for not really respecting Arsenal all while flirting with rivals lol
It has nothing to do with white knights or whatever (even though it's the other side defending the millionaire footballer here ) RVP wanting more money is his choice and it's one that most would understand but Arsenal fans have every right to be pissed.
