Ambition Why did he even try to negotiate a new deal if he was planning to leave because he had "ambition"...How come it was after the contract meeting he decided the club and him had "different ideas about where the club should go".
because wenger has promised to bring in top shelf players and he brings in gervinho..
rvp obviously would ideally stay but not at the cost of being trophyless his entire career.

He's not trophyless in his entire career.

What's wrong with him leaving anyway? 25m for a player who's 30 next year. Arsenal could get someone younger.

Re: Is it worth it?
I understand that players want a change, dont we all? If one can get even more money + easier chance of winning titles it is a no brainer for most people, though one will always want a good player to have special romantic feelings for only "your" club I guess.

truth is that if van persie was injured for half a year last season, he would have signed a contract months ago. This is how it is.

Can someone tell me if they would leave a team they like to play with one they don't for an equal or lesser paycheck than they would currently be getting?

He certainly isn't poorly paid by any stretch of the imagination but if the man feels he can better himself somewhere else, let him be. I do appreciate Vibe's take but it's all too naive for my cynical liking.
And for the record, Ronaldo (Lima) transfer was pretty much worse than this. Also badge kissing is very overrated...

Re: Is it worth it?
I am not going to hate him. He wants to leave for a better pay check and instant trophies, then fair enough, money rules the world these days.
But please stop comparing him to Henry, or Vieira. He isnt fit enough to clean their boots. Henry didn't leave for trophies, he left because of the youth project. And he left with a mutual consent. Same with Vieira.
Fabregas is a bigger club "legend" than van persie.

Re: Is it worth it?
Am i the only person on this board that isn't a slave to money? If i had a job where i was paid handsomely anyway (80k a week) then no, i wouldn't just up and f*ck off if some bigwig came and offered me twice as much to join them. Is everyone's sense of loyalty and respect that skewed?
But i guess if offered enough money, most people on here would shove a big, red dildo up their arse and dance the hokey cokey

Btw, reports have come out stating that the average five person family in the UK only needs £39,000 a YEAR to live COMFORTABLY
£39,000 a YEAR JUST to live COMFORTABLY
Players from teams like Wigan and Blackburn make that weekly

Re: Is it worth it?
Why do you hate people for wanting to earn as much as they possibly can? they're just looking after their own interest.
Living comfortably is one thing but supporting an extravagant lifestyle for the rest of your life after you've finished playing is another, not everyone wants to work forever.
Some people would...they're called pornstar's...and they're just people trying to do what they feel is in their best interest.
The objective reality is the more money you make the less you have to worry about in the future, and while it's not the be all and end all, you can't just dismiss it as factor when considering that you'll never get the opportunity to have a paycheck like this ever again. It's a big reason why youth players from all over the world go to clubs like Arsenal and United , because they're able to offer them professional contracts, in their business one injury and they can never earn that type of money again.

this is pretty much all that needs to be said. That "ambition" bullsh1t is just sugar-coating to the real reason he's leaving. If it's ambition, I guess players like Podolski and Giroud aren't good enough for RVP to partner. It's total disrespect to his teammates as well.... What the fcuk did he expect, for Wenger to sign Messi or something?
He's a great player but he's acting like a b1tch, straight up. To come out to the public with the statements he made about ambition.. lmao, how fake and transparent can you really get?? No player should be a slave to the club, so if he wants to go he would have been better off just saying "i'm not happy here anymore, im out".., even though he's getting his ass kissed on a daily basis and is an icon in London.
The guy has an amazing WC season at club level, then lets the praise and his own hype get inside his head. This Arsenal team is considerably stronger on paper than last season. Let's say that Vermaelen didn't sign a new contract and shitty players were brought in the transfer window, then sure yeah no ambition, but him saying this now makes him look like such an idiot tbh
If he wants to go, then he should just not even say anything and force a move. The grass is always greener, until you get there and become a nothing player to another club, just another name on the teamsheet. Just ask former Arsenal players. He's making a mistake. If there's any club I wouldn't mind seeing him go to, it's Juventus.

Re: Is it worth it?
You need to understand that the players are not fans, they're professionals. This is their job. This is no different than being loyal to the company you work for - if a better offer comes along, either because you would get more job satisfaction or more money, you would probably take it.Vibe wrote:Lex wrote:Is everyone's sense of loyalty and respect that skewed?

Re: Is it worth it?
I know it might sound incredible for some of you here but life is not all about money . Money is extremely important nowadays of course but there are some values that are more important than money.
Van persie can leave , don't mind . but does he have to go to Man city ?!?
Henry , Fabregas left but at least it was for FCB .
If someone like De rossi is going to leave AS Roma for example , he won't go to Juve or Milan

It is their job,but this is not an ordinary job.Other jobs don't have people who love you for doing it,or live day by day to see you in their clubs shirt.I would never, ever betray that for a bit more money. This kind of transfer should be an extreme rarity...If he was a pure professional,he wouldn't kiss the badge and wear the jersey as a kid.He wouldn't take Bergamps number because he wanted to continue his legacy. And then take a dump on all that for some green...

Where is Giroud's loyalty to Montpellier? Gervinho's to Lille? Both left champions.Vibe wrote:Lex wrote:Is everyone's sense of loyalty and respect that skewed?

Arsenal is taking an admirable route with this whole mess that we call football, and I have great respect towards the club, but the players that they court to join their ranks are in no different situations at their own respective clubs than van Persie and Fabregas are and were to Arsenal themselves.

Both were captains of their respective clubs, and both said they will never leave the club and can't imagine themselves wearing another shirt.

Re: Is it worth it?
Good god, come off it, son.
If one want to speak about loyalty being skewed as if they have a high moral ground to stand upon than at least look in the mirror first to look at one's self. Gervinho is to Lille what Nasri is to Arsenal. Giroud is to Monty what RvP is to Arsenal. That's football. Loyalty is **** today. Get over it.

Re: Is it worth it?
I think everyone knows that loyalty is dead, but this is the point of the thread discussing it
And no that's not football.... Arsenal isn't Lille's or Montpellier's direct rival like Manchester Utd and City are to Arsenal.

Re: Is it worth it?
i don't care if he wants to leave, even if it's for trophy or money. If you think your club isn't good enough for you, i will happily show you the door.
But the problem i have with him is going public about Arsenal not being good enough for him therefore putting us in a position where we could get cornered by both him and the other clubs.
At least Nasri had the decency/respect to keep playing and keeping his mouth shut until Arsenal felt the deal was good
