actually he said "that shitty golden shoe you can smear behind your ears", point of the whole thing was to speak Bavarian dialect.

Re: #25 - Thomas Müller
Dante had to ask Muller to please stop making jokes about the 7-1 at the World Cup.

to be more precise, Dante told Müller he'll punch him if he hears one more joke about it.

Müller with an inimitable Müller goal, the opener against Bremen
http://gfycat.com/DismalFirsthandCopperbutterfly
Bottles the one on one and then bends it into the corner with his left foot.
Then he selflessly served Lewa 2 goals to tap in..

At 25, Müller is now the best German goalscorer in CL with 27 goals, surpassing Mario Gomez' 26 goals.

The curious case of Thomas Müller and his GoalImpact
"Thomas Müller is always playing!" This was a famous statement by Louis Van Gaal, und there is indeed a strange coincidence between Thomas Müller being on the pitch and the probability of his team winning.
I also remember that I read an anecdote somewhere (unfortunately I haven't found any online source) that in the youth time, when teams where selected by chosing one play each for a side until the team was complete, Müller was usually chosen as one of the last guys, but strangely the team in which he played usually won.
Moreover, there seems to be a "curse" that whenever Müller is subbed of, it is detrimental for his team and it won't win.
Now you could say this is imagination, but interestingly, there is a statistic called "GoalImpact", which analyses the impact of a player on the goal difference that his team reaches. The formula used does also take into account a lot of other variables, but it seems to be pretty significant.
In the GoalImpact rating, Thomas Müller also ranks extremely high, so it is not only imagination that having Müller in one's team is really beneficial.
(BTW, the GI guys say about their stats: "Goalimpact just measures how good a team plays with the player on the field. It can't tell why a player is adding to the team success, because it does not even look on what he is doing. It just relates the team success to the player being present on the field.")
So one might wonder - what is it that makes Müller so special?

Re: #25 - Thomas Müller
I know a guy who had the opposite impact. He would play for the best amateur team in my hometown, and they would lose. When in training, and we would divide into two teams, the team that he plays in loses.

Re: #25 - Thomas Müller
Well, he is one of those team players that help their team to win, offering lots of intangibles that sometimes go unnoticed, like smart movement, unrelentless pressing, great teamplay etc, and also he has individual skill, with his great eye for goal and his speed. However I think him being number one in this ranking is down to luck, he is not THAT good.
Pedro is also a little bit like Muller, who I also see is very high in that ranking, and for good reason.

Re: #25 - Thomas Müller
The ranking doesn't look at any skills of a player - it is just a statistic that looks at how good a team does (measured in the goal difference that is achieved) while a particular player is on the pitch, so it is not any subjective rating.free_cat wrote:However I think him being number one in this ranking is down to luck, he is not THAT good.
@Valkyrja
GoalImpact doesn't look at the amount of goals a particular player scores, but it looks at how successful his team is while he is on the pitch.

Re: #25 - Thomas Müller
I know, but you can also be higher or lower in that ranking down to luck. Ie: Messi is almost always played, so his impact ranking will basically be that of Barça's. On the other hand, Muller is rotated more, if when he is subbed or rotated Bayern concedes some unlucky goals, his Impact ranking rockets.rwo power wrote:The ranking doesn't look at any skills of a player - it is just a statistic that looks at how good a team does (measured in the goal difference that is achieved) while a particular player is on the pitch, so it is not any subjective rating.free_cat wrote:However I think him being number one in this ranking is down to luck, he is not THAT good.
