Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
Yeah. Kicker is extremely stingy with that rank. Not even Neuer was put into world class this season.

Although Neuer deserves to be there.

Well, they counted two mistakes of Neuer against him. ^^Sushi Master wrote:As it should be, really.

But for them to put Godmez as world class says a lot about how they view him.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
Gómez is constantly underrated due to people having a concept of him being a guy who stands around in the box waiting for balls in order to score tap ins.
Which basically means they don't watch Godmez at all, something very common in German players unless they go to the PL or Liga.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
Whenever I want to remind myself that nobody watches or rates German players, I go to goal.com and look at their ratings. :p
But seriously, being ranked as world class by kicker magazine is like half a ballon d'or - those guys are picky.

Gomez
To be honest I haven't seen him much a side from CL, he hasn't particularly impressed me but then again he does have this great record this season.
I've probably gone and jinx it now and he will score a hattrick in the final but on a serious note is he overhyped or just a couple of bad days??

Nah it's just his fantastic movement gets him into goal scoring positions over and over again......
He has always been wasteful with his chances......

So he isn't a clinical finisher or what?

Nah not really atleast not consistently, his goals come from the fact he has a great supply line and his movement in the box is just World Class.
If you have a great supply line and your movement is as good his your goals come, no matter how many you miss.

He has the movements of Inzaghi and the finishing of Muntari.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
I have mixed feelings about his finishing, and Hummels seems to have him in his pocket but positionally he is the best and he always gets into at least 1-2 great goalscoring positions a game.
If he had the finishing of Henry he would be GOAT striker.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
His chance conversion deceived me as well, I mainly agree with Mole, but someone once dug up a stat showing that Gomez is in the top 3 in Europe of shot-to-goal ratio, meaning he apparently is clinical, on the whole.
He had HORRIBLE finishing today though. Could've had a hattrick quite easily.

I would be suprised by that if iam honest, everytime i see him he gets loads of opportunities explained by the reasons above but i see him miss atleast 3 easy chances a game.
Mind you id rather have striker like him who always gets himselfs in great positions than someone who goes into hiding after a couple of misses.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
His Chance-Goal conversion ratio is surprisingly good even though it doesn't seem like it. It's the main reason why Castrol rates him so much higher over Ronaldo, who gets 100 chances from Özil in a match and puts away 1-2.
Gomez to be best player in the world according to Castrol in the month of May?
Also Viva it was me who linked something similar Gomez surprsing stats, but that was back in November:

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
He does miss some chances, but he's a constant goal threat even though he seems "invisible". He can bang in very important goals (like in Munich, 1st leg) out of nowhere even when having bad games.
His goal record cannot be argued, even if there are better overall players. As a goalscorer, you can't get better. His workrate is also very underrated. If he can't score, he goes deep and annoys defenses and midfields with his bulk, giving space to Ribéry or whoever.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
Didnt like his finising, in either leg, but his workrate was a very pleasant surprise.
While Robben lost the ball and watched it go by him, I see Gomez working his ass off to get back and make a great challange on Cristiano.
