Was every top league a "2 horse race" this season?
The final tables look as the following"
1. Madrid (100)
2. Barca (91)
3. Valencia (61)
1. Juventus (84)
2. Milan (80)
3. Udinese (64)
1. Man City (89)
2. Man United (89)
3. Arsenal (70)
1. Borussia (81)
2. Bayern (73)
3. Schalke (64)
There was a significant gap between 2nd and 3rd for all leagues, except perhaps for the bundesliga. The difference may be more pronounced in some cases than others but the inescapable conclusion is that there were only two contenders for each league. A year of 2 horse races?

la liga was a one horse race for a long time mate
Madrid deceived pep by reducing it to 4th, but it went back to its proper 9 points difference in the end

Even Ligue 1 was a 2 horse race. It's still not over.
Portugese League was exciting though.

Yes all top 5 leagues in Europe were two horse races whether anyone likes it or not.

la liga had a 10 point difference for a long time, then 7 then 4 for about 1 week, went back to 7, finished as a 9 point lead

2 horse race implies only two teams have a chance at winning...
Nobody was picking Juve or City to win before the year started
I think there were 3 people on the whole forum who put down City as their prediction for EPL title, and I don't remember any non-Juve fans picking Juve
Bundesliga maybe....pretty much everyone picked Bayern or Dortmund pre-season, but BMG was in first as late as like christmas right?

What difference does the prediction make? The end result was that only 2 teams were in the running for both leagues. That implies a 2 horse league, whether we saw it coming or not.

Its the difference between only having two teams IN the race, and having two teams separate themselves from the rest of the pack DURING the race
In the Kentucky derby, if two horses come out of nowhere to race ahead of the pack, is it a two horse race? No.
If everyone knows that the race is really between two horses before it even starts, and then they go on and prove that sentiment right....THATs a two horse race

Actually there were 4 teams (Bayern, Dortmund, Schalke and BMG) within 3 points during that time. And I mean three points between 1st and 4th.BhritanniaBhlue wrote:Bundesliga maybe....pretty much everyone picked Bayern or Dortmund pre-season, but BMG was in first as late as like christmas right?

Tottenham was in the title race until February or March where their form surprisingly tanked., so I wouldn't say it's a 2 horse race .. even though there finished with a gap.
Arsenal the same, started super badly, but ended well.
The English league will be muuuuch closer next year.

Re: Was every top league a "2 horse race" this season?
It started like as always ,with Dortmund maybe being the exception, ended up two horse race everywhere.
The rankings are enlightening and have all the proof needed.
Doesn't matter how it started , or how some clubs fared during different periods of the season , or how they climbed the rankings afterwards. The results prove that it has been a two horce everywhere , not the expectations during or a club's goal at the beginning of the season.
Take a look at La Liga for example . If that wasn't a two horse race , i don't know what else is !
From day 1 till the day it mathematicaly ended , only 2 teams where in it. Barcelona and Real Madrid ,with the later being ridiculously consistent on the road or at home , hence winning it in the end .
I would never call that season one horse race , because it was Barcelona who pushed Madrid to have such a season and in return , it was Madrid who managed to make Barcelona's 91 points (ffs) looking that was not enough. And as proven by results between them and points gathered ,not even the 3rd was close enough for getting in the challenge , put aside all the rest.
More or less goes for the rest top leagues.

Will be interesting to see if next season will be the same, even la liga which is always a 2 horse race has Malaga with the potential to mix things up who knows though.
