Ronaldo has lost agility as kiranr mentioned because he bulked up. It has nothing to do with la liga defenders as united's ronaldo could pass through them without them before they know what had hit them.

Anyway he's clearly changed his game but overall it was for the better.

Of course there is a difference I agree. But he can still dribble and many players will tell you he's a nightmare to defend.

Ronaldo wasn't a better dribbler in the PL.

Stupid PL defenders commit to wingers when they're all they way out hugging the sideline so players with pace can knock and run in the space they leave behind.Ronaldo'd just hit a couple step overs knock it to space.

He does the same in la liga but Liga defenders are smart enough to offer up the cross and try to block it to ensure that players don't get behind them.

Thing about Ronaldo is that as a defender you know the if he cuts in he's going sideways and most likely shooting.So as soon as he does that you have no worries other than trying to challenge and hope he misses.

Another thing that helped him earlier was the more traditional winger role on the right. Strongside , his kick and run was more effective because he could use his body to shield his defender.

He's a much better player than he was at United honestly.

Are we going to make a thread when some random or former players ( GOAT or NOT ) make those statements ??

He was a much more exciting player in his first season at Madrid and the United years.

Ronaldo was a different athlete in his Utd days, i tend to agree with what Gil is saying. In terms of style and dribbling at least he was more exciting to watch back then. Now he has grown heavier and he is probably not as explosive and as light on his feet, which hinder his effectiveness while dribbling since he never truly relied on the quality of his close control, rather his athleticism.

Ronaldo is more of a runner than a Dribbler.

How that makes him any less of a player to some baffles me.

First of all, Neymar needs to prove himself outside of the brazilian league to be even mentioned among the best players in the world. He cant rightfully br called better than any big name player that has proven themself in a top league. Its just a whole nother level.

Secondly, Ronaldo right now can strike the ball harder and possibly better and overall is a better goalscorer than hr was at United, but everything else he wss better at at United. Taking on defenders, speed, dribbling, free kicks, etc. To put it simply, he used to be a real left winger that could score alot. Now, hes a fast center forward who cuts is positioned on thr left wing. If youve noticed, hes even built more like a forward now, hes gotten bulky, whereas he used to be muscular, but much more lean, like a winger.

Im not saying Ronaldo cant dribble, of course he can, hes one of the best players in the world! But he was noticeably better at dribbling and taking on his man, and was even faster, at United. Now hes better at scoring tho, as i explained before. But sorry, using a game against a struggling Villareal side that are battling relegation is not gonna prove anything. And im pretty sure Ronaldo made his name free kick-wise when he was at Unuted, before he went to Madrid. And youre talking about 1 out of 50? Before the late 20th game this season, he didnt score a single free kick, or maybe it was a single one. Either way, hes had a horrible season free kick wise besides a few beauties in the last month or two. Usually hes better than that yes, but im just reminding you. And i like Ronaldo, and believe he could be competing with Messi even better, and possibly even being considered the best in the world again if he could just get lean again and work on resharpening up his dribbling. Again, his dribbling and overall play is AMAZING, im not taking anything away from Ronaldo, i just believe he was better at United, and if he could get back to that, Messi better watch out.

Ronaldo.....was one of the worst free0kick akers I have ever seen at United.The dude couldn't even get it over the wall.

Literally 1/50 he would actually not hit the wall.

They didn't.

He chose himself over the clearly better (at the time) Giggs.

Honestly he was good at a particular set, the long range ones and the very narrow ones where you need to get a straight shout off.

He was never good at the ones from near the centre of the pitch.

Ronnie is good at Free Kicks, fgs.

Pele is known as one of the best, if not the best futebol player ever.. and he never ever played in Europe.
