Why did Dortmund do so badly in the CL? What about next season?
Sorry probably old to most ppl here, but I didnt watch Dortmund in the CL this season, or much at all tbbh, just here and there and highlights. Why are they domianting the league but losing to the 3 teams in the not so strong CL group?
And what do everyone think about how they will do next season in this comp? Thanks....

Because they are simply not good enough, in Bundesliga they just have the spirit, that will be broken soon.
Also you could say, they bitched out so they can concentrate on the league..

It pretty much came down to two factors:
1. Dortmund's finishing was terrible during the group stage.
2. An unusually high amount of individual defensive howlers >.>
Anybody who saw Dortmunds matches will agree that a 4th place finish in the group stage didn't justify their performances.

Yea, Hu.mels in patricular had some really u.usually terribly blunders. And the finishing was just terrible. I the first game against Arsenal for example, they quockly wim dwn by a goal but dominated the rest of the game amd couldve put at least 3 or 4 goals away if they were more clinical in frpnt of goal. Plus the pressure really got to them. Next season thoigh, Dortmund and Juventus too are two teams thay everyo.e should watch out for.

Re: Why did Dortmund do so badly in the CL? What about next season?
they are simply unexperienced at that level but they still kept creating chances. then again, they started the season off bad - guendogan didn't even come close to replacing sahin and they seemed a bit to conviced it would keep going their way. after a few games they regrouped and then went on that 20something unbeaten run.
Additional to that Hummels and Subotic could barely stand on their feed and had some very unusual blunders. They will still need to learn how to disect certain european teams that play very "unBundesliga'ish".
While I think that there is a bit of truth in the accusation that they can easily focus more on Bundesliga, I also believe that they can shine in CL next season. Even a loss of Kagawa would not hurt too much as Goetze will do an even better job as their number 10. Perisic or Grosskreutz will then play on the wing I would assume.

Don't read what they Bayern Munich fans are saying, some of them are still hurt because they didn't win the league. Show some respect, and actually give in depth posts, instead of saying "They weren't good enough"... Just LOL.
For me, it had to be the inexperience and pressure. After winning the Bundesliga and playing the best football in the league, a lot was expected from this team, and it's only natural that they played the way they played. Also, you had fringe players like Hummels and Gotze, for example, who aren't used to excessive pressure in the Champions League, certainly not on a regular basis. Both factors contributed, to a certain extent.

Why did City do so bad? They were outplayed by Villareal, 17th in the La Liga table, at their own stadium. Experience at the highest level yields benefits. This is why "Champions League DNA" that Bayern, Milan and Barca often claim to have makes them go farther than you would think.

People need to understand that the Champions League is a whole different ball park from the national league. Experience in a team is very important, if you don't have the Champions League DNA no matter how good you did in your league you will most likely struggle. Once you start having that DNA it becomes easier to progress through the group stages and early rounds....unless you pull a Man U and lose to random fodders in your groupBarrileteCosmico wrote:Why did City do so bad? Re: Why did Dortmund do so badly in the CL? What about next season?
I can think of two reasons: the first being that they weren't clinical enough in front of goal, the second being that they are a young team with little experience at this level, which lead to more mistakes than usual.
They should've beaten us at their place, but missed so many chances and if not for Perisic's wonder goal they probably would've lost that game.
Next year they'll be better, I reckon, along with Man City. Being 4th seeds might go against them, though.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mentiuon that at the start of the season, Gündogan didn't impress, but as the season wore on he filled in for Sahin admirably.
Not the biggest factor in why they crashed out, but a stronger midfield presence would've had at least int he EL
