Surprised Bilbao are so low on the list. They are the team that has managed more possession at the Camp Nou this season.

Before 2009, there was no obsession with Possession. Now football blogs, the media outlets are making it look like some sort of prerequisite to play great football.

Arsenal's average possession last season was 60.0%.

This season it's only 0.5 less.

But I guess Wilshere + Arteta may have bumped it up to 62ish don't know about being 2nd.

Possession means jack all when you can't finish. And it's boring. Don't get the excitement about it, Arsenal were 2nd or 3rd past years but we still didn't win shit.

Van Gaal did wonders in that department, and now Heynckes is restoring defensive stability which was always a core of Bayern's footballing values and the main reason Van Gaal was sacked. (Amazing offensive performances aside - LvG neglegted one of Bayern's core values.)

In the CL, the top 4 of most shots on target are

Real Madrid 8.4, Bayern Munich 8.3, Barcelona 8.1, Chelsea 7.8

All more than 50% possession.

You're right, of course, strike the "on target", I just meant there's teams who shoot a lot more than Barca does. Or Bayern.

How have they proved that? despite having substandard players they have managed to stay in the premier league with a lot to spare. They can even afford to send their team off on holiday right now.
