La Liga could officially become the best league in UEFA
Hey guys. After checking the UEFA coefficients on wikipedia, I realised that next season, La Liga could become the first ranked league in UEFA, using their algorithms. This is almost guaranteed IMO, because EPL will lose roughly 2 points after this season (07- 08 won't count anymore), while La Liga will most likely increase it's lead for this season (there's still 5 Spanish teams left in the CL and EL while only 1 English team remains overall). If this were to occur, would most people regard La Liga to be the strongest league, or would people still regard the EPL as the premier league in Europe? I know this league versus league topic is beaten to death, but I'm still interested to see what people think about UEFA coefficients outside the Serie A and Bundesliga debate. Here's the table below:
07-08 08-09 09-10 10-11 11-12 Coefficients
England 17.875 15.000 17.928 18.357 14.625 83.785
Spain 13.875 13.312 17.928 18.214 17.875 81.186
Germany 13.500 12.687 18.083 15.666 14.416 74.352
Italy 10.250 11.375 15.428 11.571 11.357 59.981

La Liga is easily the best league atm.
When the EPL's representative in the CL is the Chelsea team that we saw yesterday, something must be wrong.

I cant even praise that achievement ... because Real up last season were getting their butts kicked out for seasons in a row and Barca always get away with suspicious sh1t ...

There is no additional benefit for winning a competition - so, for instance, Spain received no extra points from Barcelona winning the Champions League nor Portugal for FC Porto's Europa League success.
The coefficient score is designed to give an overall assessment of performance in Europe, rather than give a considerable boost to nations that supply the winners of tournaments; it would give an additional advantage to Europe's bigger leagues, which more often that not produce the champions, especially in the Champions League.
Coefficient points are largely awarded on a simple win, lose or draw basis - two points for a victory and one for a draw (halved for the qualifying rounds). The crucial difference between the two competitions comes via the award of four additional points for reaching the group stage of the Champions League and five for making it to the second round. There is a bonus point, too, for reaching the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals of both competitions.
The total points score for a season is then divided by the number of teams a country has in European competition to arrive at the coefficient. At present, both England and Spain have scored 112 points - but the crucial difference is that England had eight teams in competition to Spain's seven, so the coefficient comes out as 14.00 for England to Spain's 16.00.
The access list for European competition is then calculated by adding together the coefficients over a five-season period, affecting qualification the season after next, and it is on this ranking that Spain is about to eclipse England.

It was always going to be a classico final, and a sh1tload of commercial for La Liga. Another great way of marketing the league after a Spanish CL final.
Damn I cant wait to follow the refs in the semis! What drama we can expect!

EL have a chance of seeing two Spanish teams in the final as well, Biesla vs Simeone
