Hodgson is now playing a diamond formation, with Wilshere at the base and Sterling (usually) at the tip. Has worked well, though still has its issues.
Rooney is captain and starts every game regardless of how crap he's playing at the time.
We've not played anyone decent since the World Cup so it's hard to judge where the team is at in terms of quality.
Ok.
So what is the team working towards in regards to Euro 2016?
What's the expectation?
I remember during Euro 2012, that integration of the younger players was a build up for that Tournament specifically.
Is that still the plan?

Re: The Three Lions
I've no idea what the expectations for Euro 2016 are. Recently, expectations have been at an all time low after the World Cup (Wembley hasn't sold out once) and winning group games probably isn't reason enough to raise them too much.
I think the only expectation right now is to win every qualifying game - doable since it really is a poor group. What they are after that will likely depend on what group we get for Euro 2016.
Nobody's under any illusion that we'll win the tournament, at least.

Re: The Three Lions
I'm liking this England team. Sturridge & Walcott yet to come back too.
I will be accused of bias but I think Gibbs should play over Baines because he's so much better defensively while Baines' free kick ability can be replaced by other players.

There is nothing about bias here. Gibbs is comfortably better than baines.

Baines is so fecking overrated, because he takes pennos and FKs they all rave about him.
Got EXPOSED vs Italy, hasn't done it in the CL.

Anyway, I hope we see another advert like this;
The amount of pressure they put on this in 2010 was insane.
Still funny though.

Re: The Three Lions
It would be a good idea to use some common sense and play some less-exciting games in stadiums other than Wembley. Would bring NT football closer to some people and encourage them going to the game, instead of playing at Wembley all the time to a half-empty stadium.

Re: The Three Lions
A nice comfortable 3-1 win over Scotland. Kept good possession and pressed very well; the latter has been a feature of this new England side recently. Impressive considering our first half midfield three was Wilshere, Milner and Downing.
It's interesting that for this game and the second half against Slovenia we played a 4-3-3 instead of the diamond. I like the diamond because it gets Welbeck in his best position but the 4-3-3 worked well. Could be a great option for us so long as future midfields don't contain Milner and Downing together.
Any thoughts on our best shape at this point?

"Are you Scotland in disguise"
"You had your vote, you f***** it up"
"F*** off Scotland, we all voted yes"
England fans were great Don't know what the press was complaining about.

Soon my friends. The PL diamonds are going to take the NT by storm. You're going to become an elite team once again.

Re: The Three Lions
England squad for Lithuania (qualifier) and Italy (friendly) games announced:
Keepers: Joe Hart (City), Fraser Forster (Southampton)
Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Man Utd), Chris Smalling (Man Utd), Kyle Walker (Spurs), Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton), Leighton Baines (Everton), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Luke Shaw (Man Utd)
Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Man Utd), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), James Milner (Man City), Ross Barkley (Everton), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Spurs), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal), Harry Kane (Spurs)
Don't see the point of having three left backs in there, and Jenkinson deserves a call-up more than Walker. Wilshere, Chamberlain and JayRod all injured otherwise would have been in the squad. Chambers and Berahino dropped to the U21s.
The U21 squad to play Czech Republic and Germany:
Keepers: Marcus Bettinelli (Fulham), Jonathan Bond (Watford), Jack Butland (Stoke)
Defenders: Eric Dier (Spurs), John Stones (England), Michael Keane (Burnley), Liam Moore (Leicester/Brentford), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal/West Ham), Ben Gibson (Middlesbrough), Luke Garbutt (Everton), Matt Targett (Southampton)
Midfielders: Nathan Chalobah (Chelsea/Reading), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton), Tom Carroll (Spurs/Swansea), Will Hughes (Derby) Jake Forster-Caskey (Brighton), Jesse Lingaard (Man Utd), Alex Pritchard (Spurs/Brentford), Nathan Redmond (Norwich)
Forwards: Saido Berahino (West Brom), Danny Ings (Burnley), Patrick Bamford (Chelsea/Boro), Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)
It's a really strong squad with quality in every position.

Re: The Three Lions
Some injuries have lead to some amusing call-ups:
Forster's injury has seen Rob Green return and Jack Butland promoted.
Danny Rose has somehow been called up to replace Luke Shaw.
Ryan Mason replaces the injured Lallana.

Re: The Three Lions
Meh. Kane scored a dodgy fourth goal when the game was already won. Before that, England's starting three had already scored, and two of them had assisted. Sterling/Welbeck/Rooney is proving to be an effective trio, either in a 4-3-3 or diamond.
Welbeck is the one who will lead us to group stage glory.

Not like he had a chance to score earlier considering he didn't start and scored within a minute of coming in. Can't see in which aspects Welbeck is superior to Kane.GoonerJay29 wrote:Meh. Re: The Three Lions
BC pls.
Townsend and Lambert scored in their debuts too, plus it was a jammy goal that came off his knee
Welbeck has 5 in his last 6 for England, if Kane did that the world would be wanking so hard it would form cracks in the earth.
