Need a better back 4. Said it all season, Baines is an attacker, not a defender. Jagielka is just not good enough and Cahill needs to fix up as well.

The back four hasn't been a problem apart from Baines, who has looked thunder-struck in both games when he has got to do some actual defending. The problem's been Hodgson sending out the wrong line-up with the big names he doesn't want to ignore, without proper tactics.

Re: The Three Lions
Well, pretty easy to have seen this coming.
Again, when the group was drawn I said every part of there group from the teams there playing to where there playing the games etc were going to be a total disaster for England. And they haven't even faced the team that's the worst match up for them yet.
Finally we can get this "Golden Generation" crap over with and start getting this country's media and there fans back to reality.
I have said this in the past and of course it was always met by extreme attacks from all kinds of people not just England fans. But after this world cup I think what really needs to be debated is was this "Golden Generation" a total sham and were any of these players ever as good as EPL media and fans made them up to be?
Doesn't it make more sense that these players came up and played through the global explosion of the EPL from a television and financial point of view and that made them look better then they really are?
Teams in the EPL for almost there whole career's were offering more money to players to come play in the EPL and it was the most successful league if a player wanted to get his brand out there and make money so many foreign players flocked to England that used to play in Serie A or La Liga.
In turn these England players who have never accomplished a single thing as a team even failing one year to make the Euro's for gods sake were pumped up by playing along side the best players in the world. For the first time a lot of EPL teams were almost all foreign and the couple of English players who played for there teams were made into stars by the media and fans because they could identify with them because they were from England, Spoke English and represented the towns and communities they live in.
I mean were any of these players really ever the best players on there club teams or were they being built up by foreign players and coaches?
Were any of these players the world beaters they were made up to be?
Because no matter what man was in charge of getting rid of the foreign talent and putting this England team together they were always underwhelming, coaches paid for it with there job and being castigated and scorned in the media while the players through all of it always had the EPL to go back to and continue to get over hyped by the English fans and media and everyone would forget about what the players really looked like without getting propped up by real world class players.
And then when the next tournament came around people would just totally forget about what happened in the last one because they had 2-4 years of being brainwashed by the EPL.
None of these players outside of Beckham ever had the hart to go test themselves in another league which is just strange as it happens NOWHERE else in the world.
I mean doesn't this make more sense than all of the excuses you hear year after year?

Re: The Three Lions
You're about four years late with that post, Dnmac4. England's so-called golden generation of yesteryear has long since broken up and it's failures well documented. In fact, of that generation, only three players were a part of this current squad, so none of what you've said is actually relevant to the current problems.

Re: The Three Lions
I'm really shocked at the lack of urgency to fire roy in the english media. Like. How is he already not fired.
He has no tactical gameplan and is completely clueless towards his opponents and their abilities. This england team has a lot of great young players and talent.. Last thing England should be doing is giving this goofball anymore time to ruin them. I hear a lot of "Welp they don't have good enough players, what can you do etc" which is the biggest load of hogwash I've ever heard when their group is currently getting thumped by Costa ****ing Rica.
England's worst world cup probably ever, and it is all 100% on Roy. This came down to tactics and being prepared, and Roy did not prepare this team. Get a manager who can get these guys ready and in a position to win in Euro 2016.

Re: The Three Lions
I think loosing walcott was a big factor he would have demanded the 1st team spot
Otherwise I think their were outside influences on england team selection which include media and some famous guys in the game.
I still think england would have reached the semi final stages if their was a proper manager who is bold enough to do what he thinks is right and not get influenced by media etc
So the Liverpool contingent and the Man Utd contingent didn't perform.
I need to point out that even in pre world cup friendly england were shit. An analysis of numbers suggests wilshere would have been much better influence on team.

Re: The Three Lions
Enough with the unwarranted self importance. You could put any lineup you want out there and it wouldn't make a difference. Every tournament it is a different excuse. The reality is that England simply aren't very good and aren't a top footballing nation, period.

Disagree
England were good in every aspect. Even Mourinho said that about england team. So we have to consider secondary things which are tactics and team selection.

I don't think we should castrate Roy. England is a hard beast to tame.
I agree that he showed that he isn't up to the task for 2016 though. We need a visionary. Neville could be worth a punt.. maybe if we stop hiring the old farts we might see something new. I don't see the FA going for it though. Nevilles lack of experience is clearly reasonable cause for concern.

Hodgson just said that the two defeats suffered by his team are not disappointing because they were narrow defeats. Have England finally accepted their status as a football underdog after years of extreme hype?

England arent underdogs rather under performing team just like Spain were for decades until Euro 08.

Yes perhaps. Maybe then one day they will win a major tournament and remove these tags for ever.
