Re: Raheem Sterling
I agree with Cujo that it's not certain will Sterling become a superstar. He needs to add a little bit on the technical side, a little bit on the shooting side, a little bit on the passing side. While he is a good player already at 20, he's not showing the kind of "wow" factor that world class players do. So, yeah, I'm not sure is he ever going to be a £150k-per-week player in his career, let alone at 20.

Re: Raheem Sterling
One more thing I want to say is that for all of us the biggest issue is probably the fact that Sterlign is only 20 and he's asking for 150k.
Say we give it to him. What will he ask in 3 years at 23. 300k? That's bordering Messi/CR level money and he'll never be worth that. And then what about at 26? There's no way we can give him that much money at 20. No way in hell. Let him go to City or Chelsea for all I care.

Yeah, and what will the other players think and ask in wages if a 20-yo gets 150k... even 100k is pushing it, if we're offering Henderson 80k, who is about his peak and captaining the club.

Hendos peak is yet to come
I'd take 50mil now, just would be wary how rodgers spent it.
Still a bit disappointed didnt RA say this would be sorted and it was all just media beat up?

Re: Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling has told BBC Sport he is not a "money-grabbing 20-year-old" after confirming he has turned down a new £100,000-a-week Liverpool deal.
He also says he will not discuss a new contract with the Reds until the summer, no matter how big a deal he might be offered in the meantime.
"It's not about the money at all," the England forward said.
"It's never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my career. That's all I talk about."
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/32149613
Ah, the good ol' "I just want to win trophies" card
I hope we don't offer him more than 100k per week. Let him leave if he doesn't sign that.

Seriously though. Why are you all already butthurt and pouting about your most promising youngster when nothing has actually happened?

A 20-yo turning down a £100k per week contract is something happening
If he signs it in the summer, cool, but it's looking more and more like he's looking for a move.

*bleep* me ceebs dealing with this shit again. Apparently he grew up a united fan, if that's true of course only trophies would keep him here, Sell him to Chelsea or city and be done with it. Ibe always looked the better of the two anyway give him time.

Re: Raheem Sterling
lmaaaooooo this guy is on drugs.
20 years of age, has done eff all in his career and choked hard in CL, yet wants to "win trophies".
Lying ungrateful guy. I am not arsed about him....everyone is a no body compared to the king Suarez. I don't care about Sterling, but how absolutely awful of him to do this interview 2 days before one of our most important games of the season ??!!
He will be going. And I won't be surprised even if it's Old Trafford down the years.
He thinks he can crack it at RM ? LMAOOo, one game like the one he had vs. Man Utd and Madrid fans will be burning his car booing him at the ground. But that's what he deserves.
It's obviously ALL about the money. It's his first season as a starter...and apparently his main concern is winning trophies. He needs t get rodwelled or Sinclaired hopefully.

Re: Raheem Sterling
Really disrespectful. No coming back from that. I'm sure he went against the advice of those at the club when he did this interview.
"flattered by Arsenal's interest". You'd think he's playing for Burnley. SMH.
Get a big fee. Flog him off. He's not as good as he thinks he is.

No point in keeping a player who doesn't want to stay. Best not to run his contract down and lose him for a lesser amount.
It's clear his head's been turned. City or Arsenal will cough up big bucks for him this summer.

Re: Raheem Sterling
If he signs the contract in the summer, then it's all cool, took his time to consider his options, all right, that's fair play. If he doesn't sign, in other words clearly indicates he'd rather be elsewhere, then I'd rather sell him already this summer. It's not a good feeling to have a player in your team who you know is one foot out of the door already, it's hard to support a player like that. Ideally he either signs a new deal this summer or then is sold.

Huh?
Is Sterling worth 150k? No. He's not. BUT. Both the club and Sterling have said they're going to wait until the end of the season. It's all paper talk from the metro over International duty so they have something to write about.
As for his comments, if he wants to leave for trophies, good on him. He has A LOT more chance of winning silverware leaving than he does staying at the club.
Yesterday Suarez, today Sterling, tomorrow Coutinho.
This is what we do.
We "develop" players. make them "world class" and then sell them.

Re: Raheem Sterling
There is absolutely no need for Arsenal to spend the asked amount on Sterling (as good as he is), given that the players who we have on the wings are nearly as good/ on par with him.
I think he will end up signing 100 000+/week over the summer, and the PR guys over at the club will come out and say every thing that was said to the journos were mis-quotes.

Re: Raheem Sterling
We've not done anything like that, We've lost Torres and Suarez both were WC and went for 50m and 75m. This is no way close to Sterling's case.
But yeah we'll probably lose a few players if we go trophy-less or CL-less for another 2 years.
