FC Barcelona leads ahead of Manchester United FC

After 11 years, FC Barcelona is still the leading team in the European club ranking of the 21st century ahead of Manchester United FC. In the year 2011 Real Madrid CF has made a great leap forward in comparison to the previous ten years, moving from position 8 to 4, while Liverpool FC fell from position 3 to 7. In spite of four position changes in the "Top 10", the clubs are still the same; four of them are English, three Italian, two Spanish and one German.

The greatest improvement in the year 2011 was acieved by Manchester City FC (20 positions) ahead of Fulham FC (17) - both come from England -, Red Bull Salzburg (17) from Austria, Racing Club de Lens (16) from France and Sport Lisboa e Benfica (13) from Portugal. The greatest loss of positions in the year 2011 was recorded by Brøndby IF (Denmark), which lost 13 positions.

The "Top 100" are composed of clubs from 26 countries. In the "Top 100" those represented by the most clubs are: Spain (12), England (11), France (10), Italy (8 ), Germany (8 ), Netherlands (6), Portugal (4), Belgium (4), Greece (4), Turkey (4), Russia (4). During of the 21st Century (2001-2011) 817 European clubs achieved 100 and more points.
